SOURCE: I need to know where the crankshaft sensor on a

the crank sensor is on the back of the engine above/behind the starter Two wires green connector
The sensor should be located to the front of the engine block to the right of the oil filter. It's only held in by one bolt and is a quick replacement. You'll need to be under the vehicle for this and it would help to jack the car up a bit to better move about. Remember to use jack stands as a fall may not kill you but will smoosh you pretty good. Usual cause is not running or jerkyness if running or from a cold start it will run for a few minutes then cut off. Crank it all you want it won't turn on. When it finally does it will only run for a bit. I suggest prior to installing a new sensor (electric parts cannot be returned) when the car dies pull a spark plug. Ground the housing to the car and crank the engine. If you have spark your CPS is fine so start looking at fuel pumps! If you don't have spark do the irish jig because your fix is simple! Hope this helps.

OBD will not pass on saturn. It tells me I need a camshaft position sencer. My garage doesnt want to mess with it.Where is this item located and is it an easy replaced piece?

The 4 cylinder engine in your 1996 Saturn SL doesn't use a cam sensor. I know, then how could there be a code for the cam sensor? Well, The electronic ignition (EI) module supplies a signal to the PCM whenever it determines that the #4 cylinder fired on its compression stroke.

You should start by checking to make sure your spark plug wire terminals on the ignition coils are not corroded. Using a multimeter, check the resistance and continuity of each ignition wire. If your car is misfiring, replace your spark plug wires and have the code cleared at your local AutoZone or Advance Auto, unless you have a code scanner.

If the code comes back, most likely you have a bad crankshaft position sensor throwing the code. While the engine is running there should be a +5 volts on the crank sensor everytime the magnetic pickup reads the crankshaft. Using a multimeter you can check the voltage to see if the sensor is functioning properly.

97 SATURN IS STARTING BUT NOT CRANKING MECHANIC DID DIAGNOSTIC & SAYS I NEED A CRANKSHAFT SENSOR IS IT TRUE U CAN ONLY PURCHASE FROM DEALERSHIP

neicie neici, No, this is not true. You can purchase a crankshaft sensor from any auto parts store. Just provide for them the year, make, model and engine size of your vehicle and they can provide a sensor for you. If you ask, they may tell you where it is located on the engine making replacement easier for you. I don't know why the mechanic told you this. Good luck with this.

Egr valve on a 2002 Saturn SL1

Take off air breather tube, you should see a cone shaped part, on top and at back of engine right by the gas pedal cable. Remove the 2 10mm bolts, and it should come right off.
