Ok, Back of starter you have the large cable from Battery's Hot side and 1 small wire that is the solenoid wire that gets hot with 12 volts when the key is turned,
If you short out the large wire with the solenoid wire the starter should start to turn over unless the key is on then the car should start..
IF car starts or starter turns the engine over you have an ignition wiring / switch problem,. Could be a relay.?
Could be a "Fusible " link at the starter small wire..
Is There Any noise and clicking like maybe a weak battery??
if the battery is fully charge you could try wacking the starter with a hammer "Just the starter" :) while someone keeps trying to tune the key and see if the starter kicks in.. If it does you need a starter..
If you have more info send it.. Thx.. BCB.
Could be a dead spot in your starter or your solenoid

It is much easier, and cheaper to find a steering knuckle or "hub assembly" in a salvage yard.
To begin, jack up the car and remove the wheel. Be certain the car is stable and will not roll off jack(s)!
Remove the spindle nut. Remove the brake caliper (hang on a wire).
Remove the bolt for lower ball join. Remove the bolt that goes thru
strut. Now, pull assembly off while prying to ease pressure from the
lower control arm.
Depending on how many miles you have on the car, you might want
to head-off some future trouble by replacing the half-axle while you
have the front end disassembled.

That engine does not have a timing belt, it has a timing chain and therefore much easier to work with as it can only go on a certain way, the primary focus being getting the dots on the timing chain sprockets lined up properly.
I believe, with the engine at Top Dead Center on cylinder #1, the dots will be facing each other. That is to say, the do on the cam sprocket will be facing the dot on the crank sprocket.

Before starting this job I would get a repair manual. This is not a easy job, 6+ hours for an experienced tech with all of the right tools. And you may have to discharge and recharge the AC system.
