Check to see the thread pitch is the same on the threads of both units.
Here's a simple way to do it if you don't have a thread pitch gauge.
Stack both ends that screw into the end your having issues with and see if the thread matches. If they do you will see minimum daylight between the threads, and they will line up perfectly. If they don't line up you are wasting your time trying. Take the old one in with you to get the replacement one (if possible of course).
This photo is a little exaggerated, but hopefully it helps. Obviously these are of a different thread pitch.
Hi:) I have a Saturn Wagon and had the same problem i bought a new starter to find out when i was putting it on. The wire going to the solenoid on the starter was loose and only needed tightened but since i was there i put the new one on anyway because of the age of the old starter.
It seems that a washer that is between the nut and the wire rusts away and loosen the connection over time.
take a small punch or drill bit and tapv them out with a hammer, they get stuck in there really hard, i advise when you do get them out to wirewhell them to clean them up
The estimate for my 2000 Saturn LS-1 was around $500.00. I would suspect it should be around this much for your wagon since it is basically identical regarding the BCM. It is easy to get to the BCM so a relatively mechanically savvy person could change it on your own but it has to be programmed which will require the mechanic anyway.
The problem is that apparently, since Saturn has been dissolved the BCM's are getting hard to come by. The dealer is unable to order one for my car. You may have more luck with a 2003.
I suggest you try one of those instant download manuals. My nephew bought one for me when my car broke and we could fix it all by ourselves with the manual costing $10. This website reliable-store.com is very good for this.
?Try it.
