Spout circuit failure help. What would be the probable cause of a spout circuit failure in a 95 f150 with a 5.0. Truck runs like cr@p and mpg is way down and pings under acceleration. I know its an ignition/timing issue but the spout failure is baffling me. From what i have been seeing could be the distributor? Anyone else had this trouble and replaced distrib and fix problem?

Sorry i dont understand the lingo here -- spout??? if this vehicle has a distributor thenm its too far advanced or the gas /petrol is below the correct octane value or too much bio fuel -eythelene -- has been added to the fuel ,this happens a lot here in europe with the looney left and their enviromental lobbies ,over 10% on a older car will cause problems .My peugeot 205 1988 doesnt like the 95 but the 98 runs like a dream ,no froxen ice around the carb or perished fuel lines .

Spout circuit is found on ford, not sure others, its like an electronic advance for timing. You have to pull out the jumper plug to set initial timing and if you do not put it back you have no advance.

SOURCE: ford f150 spout connector makes truck run bad,

How is the condition of the wiring, at, and around the Ignition Control Unit?

I am asking that because I will usually find all of these wires, including the wires leading out to the engine, to be in poor condition. I usually find that the wires will have a lot of missing wire insulation with a lot of exposed wires that are either touching other exposed wires, or to ground. Un-twist any twisted up wires especially the wires to the Ignition Control Unit. Check and inspect the wires carefully for missing insulation especially any twisted up wires, and also check inside the wire looms for any damaged wires. I can not even begin to count how many times that I have had to get out the soldering iron and repair wiring in that location, and on those types of F-Series Ford trucks.

With the SPOUT jumper removed the timing should be 10BTDC, 15BTDC is close - maybe you should check it again to be sure you aren't misreading the timing mark? If you still think the timing isn't right, you can compare the SPOUT signal to the PIP (Pre Ingnition Pickup) signal which is always 10 BTDC and should match the SPOUT when the jumper is removed. Other than that, 23 BTDC is about normal so I think if it is not running optimally, your problem lies elsewhere, especially since there no DTCs related to the ignition system. 95 Ford f150 5.0. When weather is cold takes several trys to get started and have to play with throttle to keep running. Barely runs till up to normal temps but rarely runs good. Idle surges and truck will...

the detonation (pinging) is an indication that the fuel/air mixture ratio is out ( lean) or the timing is wrong (too far advanced). The mixture is set by both the HO2S sensor and the O2 sensor so check them out for failure. If it is a V engine check out all 4 units. The timing may indicate a faulty ignition module so look in that area for the hard starting. There will be codes stored but you may have to get an expert to connect the data link correctly top get the CPU to read out Different systems, different leads ,different pin connections

How and Why No Spark with SPOUT connected. Disconnected Spark either way truck will not start at all???

Yeah, Try this one thing and it will start. Hook a hot wire, with alligator clips, from the + of battery to the + side of the coil and crank it up. Then pull the wire off the coil. If it dies, it isn't charging and could be the start fuse. If it still runs, your good cause this just reset the ECM/computer.

Timing

The engine computer uses the spout connector to change engine timing for various conditions. With the spout connector disconnected, the base timing should be set to 10* BTDC. Various things could be causing your problem. You need to get the codes read to find the cause. Most parts store will read the codes for you. It can be run with it disconnected, but will affect preformance and mpg, as there will be no timing advance.

Fueling of gas

Had cars like that; the path to the gas tank is probably somewhat constricted with bends causing the gas flow to gag at that point. A '95 Saturn SL2 I owned (what junk, glad I don't any more!) liked having the bend in the fuel spout pointing toward the front to avoid the problem you are having. You might try rotating spout a bit while fueling to see if you can also find a better path for the fuel.
