SOURCE: 3.1 engine 96 misfires trough driving speeds and idle

i had a 94 that ran into problems like that with very rough idles and misses. i get about five different codes from injectors to oxygen sensor. turned out my negative wire from the battery was so corroded inside the insulation it was causing all sorts of problems. bought new cable and ends from canadian tire $40.00 and installed (had to clean the connection to the block with sand paper) but fixed all my problems after that.

cheers

SOURCE: '96 f150,4.9 six,dual fuel tanks,replaced front

I have a 1996 f150 and I had the same problem. I finally found out that the rear fuel pump is the main pump, and if it goes out then the front pump will not work either. There is a groud that both pump share on the rear cross member. If you are not getting good connection with the ground the fuel pumps will not work. Also if you replace the rear pump and it still does not work then your problem could be the fuel tank selector switch, it acts as a relay if it goes out then neither pump will work.

The error P1130 and P1131 is for the fuel trim and lean fuel mixture respectively. This tells me that this may be an issue with the air fuel mixture or its reached its limits in compensating for the incorrect mixture. You could try to clean out the intake first using carb cleaner spray or tuner spray to clean out the intake and the MAF sensor which measures the air that comes in. Check also if there are leaks or gaps on the air duct found between the air filter and the intake manifold and the intake plenum. Leaks would cause the system to get an incorrect reading. If it were a faulty sensor you should get the error code for the sensor and you may have issues starting the engine up.

Check also the vacuum hoses which may be loose or cracked that needs replacing or refitting. This is also a common cause. I also do not rule out the possibility of the fuel sensors going or starting to go bad. The PCV may also need cleaning or replacing.

With all mentioned items go check first the leaks of the intake system and the vacuum lines as these are found to be common. Some leaks or cracks are minimal but is crucial to the sensors.

1994 f250 5.8 starts right up 40 psi fuel pressure. Start to take off and it almost dies when pushing throttle in gear. Fuel pressure drops to 10psi before it dies.

WOW YOU DID IT ALL THERE, SUPER GOOD JOB
10-PSI IS DEAD WONG.
  1. bad pump ir rusted wires to it, or pins,
  2. bad FPump relay. burned contacts in it. bad.
  3. bad FPR FP regulator. and vacuum nipppple not leaking fuel./
  4. clogged inline fuel filters. even pump sock bad.
for sure new filter is easy, inline easy to put hands on first.
does F250 have front and rear fuel tanks? and fuel tank selector valve?
The Fuel Tank Selector Valve allows the driver to switch between the vehicle's front and rear fuel tanks. hummmmmm?

this is mpi (efi) engine right. v8,
they made 3 systems sadly the year, 1 pump or 2pumps.
"The fuel delivery system uses either a high or low-pressure in-line or in-tank electric fuel pump, with some models equipped with both
fuel pumps.
"

in a real shop we can see on scope that the Brush segments on the commutator or the pump are dead. and now pump is weak. even about to fail amazing no? there is Youtube that vie Duane page.
what is spec, ok I will look in your service manual for that.

the FPR (if pump good and passes the shunt test)
the FPR vacuum conn. must have good no vacuum key off and full vacuum max 20inchs Hg. at idle and when throttle gunned vaccuum falls fast, and fuel pressure goes 6psi changed from
idle to driving up a hill full load wot, wide one throttle.
at full idle vacuum fuel pressure is lowet, and at WOT, fuel pressure is the most. near 40 PSI or HP will not happen (full power full fuel flow)

10PSI usually means pump is bad. FPR can not hold 40+ when weak pump.

the other test is keyon pressure is max then but pump only runs 1second, so the trick is, crank for 5sconds max (save da battery)
46psi/
OMG this beast has 2 fuel pumps . ONE IN LINE.
"include a high pressure inline electric fuel pump, a low-pressure tank-mounted fuel pump, fuel charging manifold, pressure regulator, fuel filter"
ok let me look that up.
quote
"The pressure regulator reduces fuel pressure to 39-40 psi (269-276 kPa) under normal operating conditions. At idle or high manifold vacuum condition, fuel pressure is reduced to approximately 30 psi (207 kPa).(idle is lower PSI due to huge vacuum in he plenum)?

Schrader type valve at rail

I trying hard to learn the exact parts for fuel this v8 uses
the only tricky parts here is dual tanks
and the number of pumps on the truck
some low pressure tank pump and frame mounted high pressure 40psi up , pump and shunted can do over 60psi. a shunt test is output hose (blocked) old pump fail this easy with bad brushes deep inside. (commutator segments some wrecked)
that is all , hope it helps you, need more fact to deep, for sure 2 thanks.

1996 Doge Ram 1500 5.2 liter, wont start or starts & quits as soon as you put it in gear.

Low idle? Could be a crank position sensor. Let it warm up and try again, then its most likely the idle air control (IAC) actuator/valve. Do some regular maintenance. Start with fuel filter, then distributor cap and rotor, and spark plugs. Most likely just needs a fuel filter, should be on the frame rail, if not then its in the tank and I would start with the other stuff because removing the tank sucks.

Have you changed your oil? Rotella 15W-40. These engines really don't like old oil. It becomes too thick for the injection pump to work correctly. Another possibility is a bad cam sensor on the front of the motor. Most engines call this the crank sensor but on this engine you have to look it up as a cam sensor.

You haven't changed everything...map sensor controls spark and fuel mixture as does the throttle position sensor, also check the idle control valve...Don't just buy stuff...do testing first.
