The light is located on the top right section of the instrument panel. It has come on twice in the last two weeks. It stays on until I turn off the engine. It is not on when I restart the car.
The security, antitheft or lock picture/icon is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterprets this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle. This link explains it pretty well.

Do It Yourself GM Security bypass
SOURCE: 1995 Buick LeSabre won't start when security light comes on.
When my 1994 LaSabre had a problem recognizing the chip in the key (due to the contacts in the lock not working), I managed to bypass the system by locating the two wires (clear tube with two smaller wires in it exiting the steerin column, unlike any other wiring), cutting the cable, and soldering a resistor across the two wires that go to the hidden module thet in turn controlls the starter and sends a signal to the engine computer. Use a resistor of the same resistamce value as in one of the keys for the car (measure resistors with a digital meter). There are a dozen or so values used. You loose the extra protection of the chip, but the fix is low cost.

That is an Airbag Warning Light. You will need to have the Dealership or a Qualified Mechanic Reset this Light. If you try and mess around with the Air Bag System The airbags could go off resulting in Major Repairs to the Dash and other Components.

that sounds like its the ignitionswitch is going bad on the car or its the ignition its self. it could also be a loose wire going to your starter.
