This may be as simple as relearning the window stop positions. Perform the following procedure to relearn the windows;

1) Sit in the drivers seat and ensure both doors are fully closed.
2) Turn the key to the ON position but do not start the vehicle.
3) Pull up on the drivers window switch until the window reaches the full up position, then CONTINUE HOLDING THE SWITCH UP for 2-5 seconds, then release the switch.
4) Push down on the drivers window switch until the window fully opens, then CONTINUE HOLDING THE SWITCH DOWN for 2-5 seconds, then release the switch.
5) Repeat steps 1-4 for the passenger window.
6) Close both windows and check the operation of the smart glass.

no this is something you can do yourself what you need to buy first is a window motor and regulator this is the motor track system prety simple to fix but you need to pull the window up by hand and wedge it in place so it won't move till you are ready to reattach it to the new track

Drivers side window will not go completely airtight when up.drops and goes up when door opens and shuts, but not high enough to seal correctly

My 02 had this same problem, the glass has shifted position in the mechanism. You will need to take the inner door card off to get at the mechanism, lower the glass about half way then reach through the large opening in the door panel to feel for the large 'cog' shaped retaining bolts that hold the glass to the mechanism (one either side, both facing the outer door skin). A 5mm torx or allen key bit is required to loosen both 'cogs'. You can then adjust the glass position. This is possibly best done with two people...once the glass is loose, make sure you move the glass first to break the seal (it may have stuck to the rubber seal over time, so will not move much), then gently tighten into place, raise the window to the full up position, shut the door fully, then with the help of an assistant, one inside the car one outside, move the glass into the desired place and tighten the cogs. Open the door, fully lower and fully raise the glass, then keep the switch in the up position for 5 seconds, this teaches the ECU the new position. Check that the window closes when you open and close the door, if not, try adjusting the glass angle with the adjustment screws located at the very bottom of the door. When in the right position, you should just be able to pull a sheet of paper past the glass and the seal. Boom, done!

Steps to replace right hand side door internal window seal

I believe your car has a full frame windows? If that is correct then are you talking about the rubber the window glass slides up and down in? If so, then you have to remove the inner door panel and might be helpful if you have power windows remove the power window switch from the inner panel and reconnect to wiring harness. Using this technique, there are 2 10mm bolts holding the window glass to the regulator. Position the glass with the 10mm bolts through a couple sight holes, remove the 10mm bolts but hold on to the glass so it doesn't fall in the door and break. install the rubber window channel and reverse procedure.

GENERAL PROCEDURES Rear Window Motor Initialization s1r~us~en~file=ani_caut.gif~gen~ref.gif CAUTION: Make sure that no obstructions are present in the power rear window system when carrying out this procedure.
NOTE: This procedure must be carried out when repairs are performed on any part of the power rear window system including when: the power rear window motor is removed from the window regulator drum housing, a new power rear motor is installed, a new power rear window regulator is installed, a new power rear window module is installed, and any operation in which grease or lubricants are applied to the power rear window system.
NOTE: All power rear window components (window glass module, window regulator, window motor, and glass runs) must be installed and torqued to specification before carrying out this procedure.
NOTE: Steps 1-6 must be completed within 30 seconds. The entire procedure must be completed within five minutes.
NOTE: Once the ignition key is turned to the ON position in Step 6, it must remain on until the entire procedure is completed.
NOTE: Steps 7 and 9 require that the power rear window control switch be held in the closed position until the power rear window motor stalls the window in the upper header seal. Step 8 requires that the window control switch be momentarily turned to the open position.
  1. Start with the ignition in the OFF position.
  1. Turn the ignition to the ON position.
  1. Press the power rear window control switch vent button six times.
  1. Turn the ignition to the OFF position.
  1. Press the power rear window control switch vent button six times.
  1. Turn the ignition to the ON position. The power rear window will move up-down-up-down approximately 20 mm (0.8 in). This movement indicates that the power rear window motor has entered initialized mode.
  1. Rotate and hold the power rear window control switch to the closed position until the window stalls in the upper header seal.
  1. Momentarily rotate the power rear window control switch to the open position and release. The power rear window will carry out a one-touch down operation until the window stalls at the bottom of the travel stop designed into the window regulator.
  1. Rotate and hold the power rear window control switch to the closed position until the window stalls into the upper header seal. Once this operation is complete, the window will move up-down-up-down approximately 20 mm (0.8 in). This movement indicates that the power rear window motor has been successfully initialized.
  1. Verify correct operation of the power rear window by moving the window to the fully open, vent, then fully closed positions.

Back windows will not let down

Make sure the lock-out switch on the drivers door is not in the locked position for power windows.
For hand cranked or power windows...if the windows have not been rolled down recently they could just be stuck in the rubber seals. It happens! Try running a thin flexible plastic spatula or the like, around the edge of the windows inbetween the glass and rubber, inside and outside. If that still doesn't help, open the doors and have a helper crank the handle or push the power switch down, while you sandwich the window glass between your hands and push the glass down. Good luck!

2000 ford taurus power window control will work on the back windows but not the front the assembly has also fallen down in the slot do you think it could just be the wires in the door

Hello, When a window falls in the track you usually need a part called a Window Regulator. The gears in the window motor usually lock the window in position and does not allow a freefall to occur.

There is an intermediate control switch which allows the Automatic down and up on the Drivers side. It must be good to allow the window motor to move. If you want the window up for the night, you can remove the door panel, lift the window, and brace the frame with wood or vise grip pliers or a small C clamp.

A Glass company may be able to come by your house or work, and replace the parts. Or you can get an appointment and take it in, watch TV and it should be ready in an hour. If you have the tools and are experienced, it is a simple job.

It is most common for the Driver's window to break as it is the most used window on the car. I hope this solution is very helpful to you. It will probably cost $50 to $100 in Labor plus parts to fix this. You can have alignment issues if you try to force something and breaking the glass is another possibility.

Electric window stopped working and glass is dropping

It sounds like your regulator is not functioning for one. Sounds like your window is off track for another. Perhaps the rivets that hold the track in place may have busted causing the track to not lay flat and is allowing the window to fall down. I have seen this many times. You will have to take the inside door panel off of the door and have a look. That is the only way to tell exactly what is wrong but the things I listed more than likely are at least in part the culprit. After the tract for the window breaks the regulator can not track up and down properly and it begins to jam and not function properly. It eventually jams and no longer moves. This means your window will not go up or down. This is what I think the problem is. If your glass was not dropping and it was just the window not rolling up or down anymore I would suggest looking at the regulator or the master control (lock and window buttons.) Good luck.

Hi

this is very common, remove the door card or door trim and then you will see a plastic sheet careful how you take this off as if you rip it you will get cold legs while driving.

normally on the right hand side of the inside of the door you wil see a bar with either one or 2 10mm nuts or bolts these are to align the window in position you can normally tell if they have moved as the paint on the inside of the door will show where the nut or bolt should be like a coffee mug mark on a kitchen top.

simply put the bar back into the position to line it up again, also you may have to remove the window switch to get the door trim off put that to one side then reconnect it while the trim is off as you might have to move the window up and down to see the correct position and to take some of the presure off the galss, finally towards the front end of the car or the hinge part of the door you will see a runner for the window to sit into, ensure that the 2 edges of the galss are central to the runner / guide. you might like I say have to have the window up and down to get the right position bt you can always loosen or tighten the bolts / nuts to allow some movement.

hope I have not confused you thats the best I can explain it. get back to me if you need more help

Regards and have a great new year
Dan
