Look on the left side lower section of the dash board near the drivers door, you will see a rectangle shaped door panel open the panel and locate the fuse for the cigarette lighter, if you can't locate it open your car manual and you should be able to find it.
look at the accessories fuse . It should be 15- 20 amps. The accessories fuse normally control the cig lighter, radio and anything else you run without the ignition being on
Probably the alternator is not giving enough time to charge the battery and the battery is partially discharged when you drive the vehicle. At Wal-mart you can buy a digital guage you plug in into your sigarett lighter and it will tell you the Battery voltage and when you drive it will show you the alternator voltage. The cost is less then $5.00. I have one. A red light indicate a malfunction with the alternator and or the battery.
Check the fuse. 15 amp, labeled CIG in fuse box. the fuse box is like in front of the drivers left knee under the lower dash panel. The power outlet should be there also.
get a cheap test light from an auto parts store . there will be metal nubs on top of the fuses check both sides of the fuses.make sure the clip on the test light is on clean metal.then use the pointed end to check the fuses.the light will light up on both sides if fuse is good.good luck
If the cigarette lighter is an unswitched power point you could use it as a location to put a very small charge, just enough to get the hood release solenoid to activate. Years ago there was a device that was a male cigarette lighter power point at both ends and enough cable to go from car to car. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DO ANYTHING ELSE EXCEPT OPEN HOOD, DO NOT TURN KEY TO RUN OR ATTEMPT TO START. ANYTHING COULD RESULT. MINOR OR MAJOR. THERE IS A COMPUTER MEMORY SAVER THAT MATES A 9 VOLT TO A MALE CIGARETTE LIGHTER PLUG THIS MAY NOT BE ENOUGH TO RELEASE HOOD BUT MAYBE WITH A 12 VOLT FLASHLIGHT BATTERY (2 6 VOLT BATTERIES) WOULD WORK TO OPEN THE HOOD. (TURN EVERYTHING OFF EVEN DOME LIGHT.)
