O5 expedition 5.4 3valve triton: what does the exclamation light mean and wrench light

The wrench warning light on Ford vehicles is the powertrain malfunction indicator light. When it illuminates, it means that the computer has detected an issue with your vehicle's powertrain or four-wheel-drive system.

A powertrain malfunction light should be taken seriously, as allowing a serious issue to persist can lead to costly repairs to your engine, transmission, or drivetrain in the long run. You should consider having the car towed straight to an authorized dealer rather than driving if you notice any changes in your vehicle's performance like engine shaking or reduced power. In cases where you are towing a heavy load and/or driving up a steep grade, a powertrain malfunction light may be telling you to ease off to avoid overheating. If the problem resolves itself the warning may go away.
It's possible that your vehicle might enter Fail-Safe Mode shortly after the powertrain malfunction light illuminates. Fail-Safe Mode automatically limits engine power so that you can safely maneuver your vehicle off the road without causing any further damage to your vehicle's components. If this happens, you should only continue to drive as long as necessary to bring your vehicle to rest in a safe location and seek immediate repairs.

If your Ford dashboard warning light is orange or red, this can be a signal that your vehicle is experiencing a problem that should be looked at very soon. Use Ford's quick and easy dashboard warning light reference sheet to determine what is happening with your vehicle.
When a light is yellow, your Ford is trying to tell you that service may be required, or at the least, you should have a technician decipher the warning lights meaning. When a Ford dashboard warning light is green or blue, they are simply telling you that one of your Ford's features is being used, or has been activated.

2007 mercury mountaineer wrench light lit. what is that mean?

Wrench Warning Indicator (Base Instrument Cluster)
The instrument cluster receives the powertrain status from the PCM over the HS-CAN. When a powertrain system concern is detected, the PCM sends the instrument cluster a command signal to illuminate the wrench warning indicator. If the 4WD control module detects a failure with the 4WD drive system, the 4WD control module sends a message to the instrument cluster over the CAN to illuminate the wrench warning indicator. On 4.6L engines, if the transmission control module (TCM) detects a failure with the transmission, the TCM sends a message to the instrument cluster over the CAN to illuminate the wrench warning indicator.

It means a trip to the dealer or some other qualified repair shop .

2006 wrench light is on

Powertrain Malfunction (Wrench) Warning Indicator (base instrument cluster)
The instrument cluster receives the powertrain status from the PCM over the high speed CAN. When a powertrain system concern is detected, the PCM sends the instrument cluster a command signal to illuminate the powertrain malfunction (wrench) warning indicator. If the 4WD control module detects a failure with the 4WD drive system, the 4WD control module sends a message to the instrument cluster over the CAN to illuminate the powertrain malfunction (wrench) warning indicator. On 4.6L engines, if the transmission control module (TCM) detects a failure with the transmission, the TCM sends a message to the instrument cluster over the CAN to illuminate the powertrain malfunction (wrench) warning indicator.
better have it checked !

Why is my Ford 500 wrench light

Hello!

The computer turns this light on when there is a powertrain malfunction/electronic throttle body system malfunction. It could be the throttle body, computer, wiring or a sensor into the computer used for the throttle body. You will need to scan your computer again when the code is illuminated on the dash. Chances are you will pick up a code when this is done in the computer.
Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor
The APP sensor is an input to the powertrain control module (PCM) and is used to determine the torque demand. There are 3 pedal position signals in the sensor. Signal 1, APPS1, has a negative slope (increasing angle, decreasing voltage) and signals 2 and 3, APPS2 and APPS3, both have a positive slope (increasing angle, increasing voltage). During normal operation APPS1 is used as the indication of pedal position by the strategy. The 3 pedal position signals make sure the PCM receives a correct input even if 1 signal has a concern. There are 2 reference voltage circuits and 2 signal return circuits for the sensor. For additional information, refer to Torque Based Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) in this section.

It should be noted that the ETC system includes a warning indicator, wrench warning indicator, on the instrument cluster that illuminates when a concern is present. Concerns are accompanied by diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and may also illuminate the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL).
You best bet is to take your vehicle to a ASE certified repair shop or the Ford dealer !

Cog with Exclamation mark (Manual Gearbox)

Right above the check engine light ?
Powertrain warning lamp ,is what factory service info calls it .
Powertrain Malfunction Indicator Lamp The powertrain malfunction indicator lamp illuminates when a DTC is registered in the PCM which does not affect exhaust emissions. This lamp will also illuminate if the fail-safe cooling strategy is invoked by the PCM.
Have vehicle checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes .

2009 ford explorer wrench appears and starts running rough,

The Wrench Symbol is the Powertrain malfunction indicator: When this symbol comes on it means that the powertrain control module (PCM for short) has detected a problem in the powertrain (engine, transmission AWD), in you case it seems to be the engine that has problem. The number of problems that turns this light on is not cut and dry, it can be any number of things that have malfunctioned. What must be done now is to the the system scanned for fault codes, a fault code or codes is stored for the problem when this light came on or in your case comes on. It is likely this problem is covered under the emission system warranty if you have less than 70,000 miles on the truck.
