I have a 2000 chevy blazer and I get random misfires and the service engine light comes on. It happens when I am driving and in the same spot on the freeway, when I accelerate up a specific incline. The light flashes and then goes solid. Almost always the light goes back off on its own, usually the next day after I have driven 20-30 miles. I don't feel a huge difference in the car when this happens. Does any one know what could be causing this. I have had it in for service and they can not diagnose it as it never happens when they test drive it.
You need have the code read . could be an 02 sensor , or if your truck has a secondary air pump , there are 2 elbow hoses (one on each side ) coming off the front of the exhaust manifold , check to see if they are cracked & leaking . not all 2000 have this , depends when it was made .
Try doing spark plugs and wires if that doesn't fix it replace the cap and rotor

Have you made sure your getting spark on every cylinder from the coil pack?

Drive it into a dark place, or wait till dark. When it's running poorly, see if you can see any spark flying around. It sounds like plug wires.

well i had a 98 dodge neon that seems like it did the same and it said engine misfire and all i did was due a tune up change spark plugs and wires.

Have you changed the coils at each misfing cylinder? I had a misfire on cylinder 3, running really rough with flashing check engine light when engine was warm. The Check Engine light did come on solid after the misfire cleared. Swapped the coil with another cylinder and the misfire code followed the coil, so I replaced the suspect coil with a known good one. Voila, problem solved. My vehicle is a 2001 Jetta 1.8t, and from what I've read on the internet, failing coils is a very common problem. Good luck.

Random engine misfire is very hard to diagnose as there are alot of things that can cause this. I would check the PCV system first replace the pcv valve and inspect all lines going to the pcv valve for leaks. The other thing to do is replace the gas cap as this can also cause the code. Most likely cause is a fault in the emissions system.
