I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 318 motor pickup truck, I just replaced the factory stereo with an aftermarket CD player. I have the new stereo playing but I need to know what color wire to hook the Illumination wire to for the dash lights. Right now I have it connected to the 12 volt key switch wire but it powers the dash lights/parking lights on every time you have the key on. I had to buy a wiring harness for the aftermarket connections. So my question would be where can I find a wiring diagram for such a job, or where should I connect the illumination wire? Thank you for your time.
Why this isn't a total solution, one resource I've used many times when it comes to electrical diagrams is http://www.the12volt.com/. They have all the diagrams and "audio experts" there that might be able to tell you specifically the color.
If you use a test light (12 volt) or DC voltmeter you can probe wires going into light switch for wire that only has power when pulled on, or go to fuse panel & look for one that only has power when light switch pulled, and stick wire in beside spade of fuse.
Yes the CD player works in every way lights up, clock, radio, and CD player as well as all the functions eq, etc. I had to buy a wiring harness that ran two connections down to one for the aftermarket radio. Sorry for the slow response I was just outside replacing one of the blown speakers that blew out a year or two back on the passenger side. All the systems work as far as function just that I need to know where to run the illumination wire that runs the dash lights/parking lights. The way I have it ran now they will come on anytime the key is turned forward to start the vehicle. Thank you for your time and interest in my problem it's much appreciated.

Thank you that site rocks solved my problem I didn't even need the wire hooked up at all and had it ran to the key switch thinking since it said dash lights on the wire that I needed it for dash lights. Holler later.
Does the new CD Player light up, and do you the display on when you turn it on?
