have vehicle scanned for trouble code --you have an electric assist motor mounted to steering column behind dash that is your power steering pump sort to say this is a recall notice you can call and check if your vehicle was done or is a listed vehicle https://auto-recalls.justia.com/saturn/ion/2004/14v153000/index.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14By80EyQT0
The average cost for a Saturn Aura Power Steering Pump Replacement is between $341 and $451. Labor costs are estimated between $114 and $145 while parts are priced between $227 and $306. Estimate does not include taxes and fees.
check if you have enough power steering fluid in the reservoir then the car is sitting for a while...if its low then you might have found the problem...if it is okay then you might have a power steering pump problem... Good Luck!
The pump and pulley should be replace at the same time, but you can buy pulley, you will need to have autozone loan you the puller. You will have pay full price as deposit but bring back and there is no charge.
Sounds like your serpentine belt. I would check the condition of your belt on the engine. It is possible that you could also have power steering pump issues. Check belt condition first, Second if the belt is not glazed and looks ok remove the belt and check movement on power steering pump pulley to see what what type of resistence is presen while turning pulley. If so, pump should be replaced. This could be causing belt to slip and make the squeeling that you are hearing. If no resistence on pump replace belt and varify repair. Good luck.....
you need to replace either your high pressure line or your return line before you go and replace the entire power steering pump which could have a leak in it too. somehow you are losing fluid presure somewhere due to a leak .
