The solution is that you must purchase the complete shift housing because it is all one piece and you can't just replace part of it.The dealer told me this is about $250.00 U.S. and it can be replaced by an intermediate skilled tinkerer. For right now I just live with the inconvenience as I can pretty much guess what gear Im in.

put the car on jackstands or drive it onto ramps, take som carb cleaner/engine degreaser and spray the the little linkage on the side of your tranny, then work it through the gears, don't start it, just turn the key ot the first notch and put your parking brake on, try this process a few times, if this doesn't help there may be bigger problems.

Hi, if your car is manual gear box and its stuck in first then it could be one of a couple of things if the gear stick is solid and wont move out of the first gear possition then the chances are that it could be either the clutch has gone or the thrust bearing on the clutch has failed these parts both come in a clutch kit.
you could try rocking the car backwards and forwards whilst moving the gearstick to see if it frees up out of first gear.
Can you start the car up with the clutch pressed down and drive the car in first gear as normal if this is the case and you can drive the car in first gear and the clutch seems fine then it could be a more serious fault inside the gearbox even broken selector in the box.
let me know the outcome then i can assist you further ok
