Gas smells can be tricky if you dont see a leak so one thing is look for an exhaust leak second is the purge tank

I have a 2003 Nissan Frontier, i had the same problem last month with heavy gas smell coming from the back end of the truck. I took it into the shop and they did a Diagnostic Test and found that the Evap Canister...now they've changed it..no gas smell... Try this and Good Luck...

Have them check EGR tubes, and any hoses, or tubes running to the exhaust. My guess is ones leaking while driving & getting drawn up into the incoming air at the cowl.

Take a look around engine with flashlight and follow fuel lines from throttle body, as far as you can until they go under the car out of sight. A fuel leak is not something to fool a round with if your not experienced in repairs. Your safety & others is at risk, have it checked out a.s.a.p.

ENGINE RUNNING RICH, CHECK MAKE SURE YOU DONT HAVE A CYLINDER MISSFIRE, WHICH WILL SMELL LIKE GAS.
