Ok I got a 97 dodge Dakota v8 4x4 and when you go

this sounds like a bad speed sensor which communicates with the ECM and TCM to shift the transmission which will cause the speedometer and the transmission to act the way it is.

Which transmissions interchange with the 97 Dakota 3.9 automatics ?

Your transmission is the 42RE, formerly A500SE, and A904 way before that. Due to the electronics involved, you would need the computer and associated harness for a manual Dakota if you were thinking about using a non-electronic automatic.

Stalling and overdrive

IAC ( idle air control ) location. You need to be sure to clean pintle (pointed end) of motor as well as spray clean inside port where it comes out of. Careful not to lose small "o" ring on motor.

I have a 97 dodge ram 2500. Sometimes my transmission doesn't work good and also my speedometer doesn't work at all.

dose the trans act up at the same time the speedo cuts out if soo you definatly have either an intermittent speed sensor problem of wiring in the speed sensor circuit. speen sensor is located on the extension housing of the transmission (2wd) ot back of transfer case (4x4)

Transmission will not shift into overdrive sometimes, mostly when cold. After engine is warm, it will shift. It started doing this after i cahneged the transmission fluid and filter to Royal Purple

Overdrive is electrically controlled by the pcm. When it's cold you need to check to see if the pcm is grounding the overdrive solenoid. If it is the solenoid might be bad or if the pcm is not grounding it then you need to check items that would cause the pcm to lock out overdrive. Coolant temp, TPS, Vehicle speed sensor, ECT. You will have to have it scanned to do this.

1998 dodge dakota 4x4 5spd 3.9l-cfank but wont

Do you have spark?
Do you have fuel?
Which are you missing?
TIP.A quick check for spark.........give it a spray of starting fluid....if it runs....you've got spark.
No spark usually means......a bad coil or ignition module on the 3.9.
No fuel is usually caused by a bad fuel pump.

Shifting problems

The transmission/computer is designed not to go into overdrive until it reaches a certain temp and I don't remember what the temp is. Mine does same thing and it has 250,000 miles on it. When you start your truck up do you start it and warm up in neutral? The transmission fluid won't flow unless it is. There is know way to force it to shift into overdrive until it warms to the set temp.

Hope this helps
