SOURCE: can't put gas into the gas tank .
I had this same problem....I had it checked out a few times and got many different answers and spent money for fixes that didn't correct the problem. Finally about the 3rd time in the shop they finally found the problem/solution.
There is a pressure purge valve located near the tank that is supposed to release the pressure in the gas tank when you shut off the engine. My valve was bad, it wasn't releasing the pressure when turning off the car. Since the pressure remained in the tank, it forces any new gas trying to down the filler neck into the tank back out. I have heard that this is a common problem with the Jimmy.
I had this part replaced and now I can pump gas as normal.

You will have to remove the differential cover on the rear end, in the center of the gear cluster you'll have to rotate your axle until it exposes the ends of the axle shafts, push in the axles as far as you can from the brake pad assembly area, then, there this a C clips that slips into a groove on the end of the axle, you'll have to reove the C clip to pull out the axle.

Fuel pump or injector assembly. Need to know what the fuel pressure is before throwing a part at it. By what you are saying I'm leaning tword the fuel pump. Make sure the wires at the top of the sending unit are not burn. There is a small 4 wire connector on the inside of the sending unit. If it's burnt you will need to replace both the pump and sending unit.
SOURCE: 1996 GMC Jimmy will not shift into overdrive.
4th gear failure is a common problem with this transmission, assuming it is an automatic. You should have the vehicle checked for codes by a qualified repair center with the proper scan tool. Also, check fluid level and condition. More often than not, the trans loses 3rd and 4th gear, as these are working off the same set of clutches. 3-4 clutches apply in 3rd, and when the 4th shift is made the 2-4 band applies giving you overdrive. If you have no engine braking in manual 3rd, you definitely have a mechanical failure, no 4th could be an electrical, or mechanical fault.

It's an egr valve problem (exhaust gas return) egr position sensor.
Take off the egr valve and turn it over and see if there is carbon build up in the ports, if there is clean it out with a pipe cleaner and a little carbon cleaner, just spray a little into the ports and clean it out. If that doesn't cure the problem, then either the sensor needs replacing, and or the egr valve.
