SOURCE: Where is the fuel filter on a 1997 Saturn SL2?

It is an inline fuel filter under the car in the frame rail up front neat the motor area. It will look similar to this...

On that saturn it has a hose already attached to the fuel filter. It has what they call quick connects on both sides. just remove one side of air intake. (the one closest to firewall of car) where you can get your arm in there. Reach right under fuel filter and grab two white or green tabs with pointer finger and thumb. and squeeze till they make a snaping noice. then all you have to do is reach under fuel filter and pull hose off. Then push the black clips around fuel filter out and it should slide out. The same on the hose already connected to the fuel filter

SOURCE: Where is the transmission temperature sensor

It is located on the transmission side that faces the front of the car. It's just left and below the transmission spin on filter. It's the same sensor for the Engine Coolant Temp sensor and the Intake Air Temp sensor.

What causes the speed to fluctuate when you set the cruise control?

if it just started to happen you may have lost a magnet off the drive shaft. If it is a front wheel drive then you would have two magnets on the flywheel if you lost one magnet it would cause problems.
The other possible cause if the sensitivity setting is set too sensitive then the cruise control will surge .
Setting it lower will allow it to slowly respond to speed changes but if going up hill it will take a while to increase the acceleration . Or going down hill it could accelerate too much before the cruise control realises it is going downhill
Also a very wet road can cause the wheels to spin and cause the cruise control to lose the plot and accelerate to dangerous speeds.
I have had this happen to myself once so be wary of cruise control use in wet conditions.

1997 mazda 626 cruise control not working

Check the 20A STOP FUSE and 10A METER FUSE in the joint box but also there may be no speed sensor input that signals the cruise control to engage.

I have 98 Saturn sl2. The cruise control works intermittently. I set the cruise and it will engage for about 20 to 30 seconds before disengaging. Sometimes it won't engage at all unless I repeatedly...

Testing the electrical inputs to the control module from the switch . Testing power an ground circuits to the switch . As a professional technician this is how i go about find what is wrong ! Not just replacing parts , that gets expensive. Do you know what a wiring diagram is ,an how to use one to pin point areas to do testing ? Here is a site for free wiring diagrams . http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html Enter your vehicle info. Year , make , model and engine size . Then under system click on Engine , then under subsystem click on speed controls . Click the search button , then on the blue link . You will see all the componets an wiring for the system . Do you know how to use a volt meter ?

How do I turn the cruise control on in a 2004 ion?

Use the cruise control on/off switch and set it to ON. Then momentarily hit the set/coast switch and that should do it. I believe everything is located on the steering wheel.
