I answered this earlier today but for some reason it was not posted....
if you have two keys try the other one - normally only one key has
the chip.

When i go to start my vehicle it reads bad key

this sounds like the key may be bad, try a spare key and if message doesnt appear then key is bad, if message returns with spare key then you may need programing of the body module. most of the time its just a worn key chip.

Having the same problem with 2008 dodge grand caravan. Car is not starting most of the time and giving a error message stating bad key. Dont have a second to to try. Not sure what to do? Plz help

If you boot for a few seconds and shuts down and gives you bad key problem could be the immobilizer which has the function to recognize the key and connect the engine computer which can be resolved by reprogramming the key. Thanks

Does not start. message on left of dash reads: " start prevented try again" - hv tryed locking & unlocking, shifting transmission to neutral, message continues what are yr thoughts,...

If you have a 2nd key, try it. Obviously, if it works, the first key is bad. If it doesn't work, it may be the antenna in the ignition.

Sometimes disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and then reattaching it works.

If you don't have a 2nd key, you'll most likely have to tow it into a dealer.
