I have only 35 to 39 psi gas pressure reading what can cause this. I have replaced the filter plug wires coil packs. when stepping on gas pedal there is alot of hessation

What would cause fuel pressure to be only 35 to 40 psi on a 1993 cutlass ciera ? I replaced the fuel filter plugs wires and coil packs. I have the fuel tak down and the pump pulled right now, what im seeing is metal flakes and debris in the tank, how much damage would that cause and could it get to the fuel rail? would the fuel presser regulator be bad ? there is no CK engine light .CAN I PLEASE GET SOME HEKP HERE THANKS Mike

Hey Mike, I know this is hair pulling..You need to replace the fuel pump filter/strainer.. and maybe the fuel pump..the fuel pump determines how much pressure goes through the entire system ... BUT FIRST.. determine (if you can) where the metal flakes came from..(debris is probably from a gas station.. over the years.. I learned NOT to get gas right after heavy rains - guess why?) ,,do you still have the old fuel filter?? carefully cut it open and see whats inside.. (unroll the pleats) if you see a lot of metal flakes like in the tank,, you know they were caught..

sounds like you have a huge vacuum leak at the engine, check under the hood for a sucking noise, I think you will find one.

SOURCE: Vehicle dies while driving down the road.

could it be the A/C pump kicking in. might be boging down the motor or electrical circuit, not letting the injectors get enough power. This could happen if the bearings are going bad in th A/C pump or there is a short in it. Just an idea. sounds like you have done the main components.

SOURCE: Fuel Pump Location

the fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank.On the ground the tank is really a job to replace, u must have the car at least 3 feet off the ground.

check the tps(throttle position sensor) voltages and grounds. one wire is battery voltage the other is reference voltage and the third is ground. the reference voltage should get higher smoothly as you move the throttle without any dropouts anywhere in the full movement from closed throttle to wide open.

I have a 2000 Chevy Tahoe that did the same thing. I changed the oil pump, new oil, and head gasket. It now has power and doesn't fall on its face when I step into the throttle hard. Hope this helps.

2003 Hyundai Sonata with 4 cyl. PO301 error code. Have replaced spark plugs, wires, coil packs, and mass air flow sensor. Replaced air filter due to heavy gas smell. Car was starting after tapping gas 3...

P0301 - Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected.

Possible Causes:
- Improper spark plug at cylinder #1
- Insufficient compression at cylinder #1
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- The injector circuit is open or shorted at cylinder #1
- Fuel injector #1 may be faulty
- Intake air leak at cylinder

Possible Solutions:
- Perform Injector Service
- Replaced Spark Plug #1
- Replaced Injector #1
- Replaced Ignition Coil #1

Being you have a heavy gas smell I would look into the injectors. If injector #1 is over producing it can cause a misfire. Test your compression and fuel pressure.

Code claims multiple misfires changed the plugs and it continues to sputter and backfire especially when going uphill. Fuel filter? coil pack? plug wires?

check your high tension leads or plug wires. If you find one out of the correct resistance range, about 7ohms per foot, dont discount that the missfiring has damaged the coil pack for that cylinder as the wasted spark had no where to got except hammering the coil pack. As for the fuel filter refresh them often as the standards of fuel from the pump can vary

New coil pack, ran good for a week. Replaced pack, wires plugs and fuel filter, still dies when I step on gas.2002 3.0 V6. 70K miles

The fuel pump may be about done. Check fuel pressure at the test port in the fuel rail over the injectors (rent the pressure tester)--it should be in the 40 to 50 PSI range with engine idling. If the pump continues to run with the key on, but the engine off, shows that the pump is about worn out. Hope this helps!

Check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail on top of the engine it should read a minimum of 30 psi if any lower replace the fuel pump, also if you smell a gas odor and the fuel pressure regulator looks wet with gas replace the pressure regulator before the fuel pump. This sounds like a fuel delivery issue.
