If the car started properly before the switch was changed I would take it back to the dealer.

After the ignition switch is replaced the car won't start with the reason that the new switch has to be re-learned manually or with the help of diagnostic computer.
Manual learning procedure: PLEASE DO AS DIRECTED.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (Engine off)
- Try to start the engine and leave the switch to ON position. (At this stage car will not start).

    - After ten minutes the security light should go OFF. - Turn the ignition to OFF for five seconds. - Repeat the above steps two more times. The all steps will take around thirty minutes for the completion of the re-learn procedure. - Start the engine. Delete error, codes if any.

SOURCE: 1997 Saturn SW2 won't start

Hi,

If the starter checks out OK when tested with no load (not driving the ring gear) and will spin but will not when installed, try checking:
1. the hearing/bushing at the ends of the armature;
2. carbon brushes;
3. commutator segments (the multiple small copper plates that the brush contacts with).

Of course, the above suggestions are based that the rest have checked out and the problem is limited to the starter itself. Initially, the solenoid would be the suspect but as you have posted this was tested good.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

SOURCE: starting problem with 1998 Saturn SW2

Ok I know that Coolant Temp Sensors are very very Common to Saturns, Only buy the Parts at saturn they are Calibrated Parts. Aftermarket do not work well.
You could have a work starter bendix Drive or a worn Flywheel that is causing the crackling sound you hear, To be totally honest I need to hear the sound to tell you for sure. If this information is good please Give me a Fixya! Rating and if there is anything more I can do for you please contact me .

SOURCE: car wouldnt start replace ignition switch, clutch switch then starter worked for 2 days now starter clicks but wont start left overnight car starter but when turned off wont restart

sounds like there is a dead spot in the starter. i think the other stuff may not have needed to be replaced. when the car won't start, have someone try to start while you TAP the starter with a hammer.- probably the starter, though.

SOURCE: 1996 Saturn SL2 - No response from starter - over

It would be hard to guess but a simple diagnostic would be to use a 12v test light and see if the starter solenoid recieves a 12 v signal while turning the key. If it lights, the starter should turn over. This also gives you the oportunity to check and verify all electrical connections at the starter including the large orange fusible link wire at the large battery terminal.

SOURCE: car wont start, battery is good, trying to find

Well actually I just changed my started relay and it's under the dash just left of the steering column . Get upside down under the dash ,look straight up and slightly to the right. there on the wire loom you will see two bundles on the wiring . The relay is not in the blue bundle but just above that in the same wire loom just there.

1998 Ford Windstar. Loud grind sound when started it.

Question edited for clarity and fix funky punctuation and lack of spaces.
Question moved to model category.

My first thought was that the timing belt had snapped, but you have a timing chain and it says this

Does a Ford Windstar have a timing belt or chain?
Best Answer. Your Ford Windstar had two engine options and they both ran a timing chain, not a timing belt. Belts need to be replaced at around 100K miles, but since you have a hardened steel timing chain, you have nothing to worry about. Your chain should last the life of the engine without being serviced.

Has the oil ever been changed. You saying there was a 'pop' concerns me but it may have been a backfire, or unburned fuel popping through the Throttle Body.

And then there is the grinding sound, but that might just be the starter on the flywheel.

The only way to diagnose is to call out a mobile mechanic.

2000 Oldsmobile bravada starter engages key off when battery cables are hooked up

Check the starter relay. Remove the connector to ignition key switch and try connecting the battery again. If it still does then you may have to rewire your starting circuit.

The starter solenoid maybe stuck. Pull out the starter motor and bench test it.

2006 impala battery good but won’t start

When you turn the key to the start position what's happens ? Nothing , do the lights dim ,dome light ? The starter doesn't engage an spin the engine ? Is the security light lit on the instrument cluster ? Anti-theft system problem may disable starter engagement . You say battery is good ? How do you know ? Headlamps shine bright ? Do you know how the starter circuit works ? Does it use a key start ?
Circuit Description (Key Start)
When the ignition switch is placed in the Start position, a discrete signal is supplied to the body control module (BCM) notifying it that the ignition is in the Start position. The BCM then sends a message to the engine control module (ECM) notifying it that CRANK has been requested. The ECM verifies that the transmission is in Park or Neutral. If it is, the ECM then supplies 12 volts to the control circuit of the crank relay. When this occurs, battery positive voltage is supplied through the switch side of the crank relay to the S terminal of the starter solenoid.

On start 1, tractor started easily, ran well and shut down normally. on start 2, no cranking at all.

Could be the ignition switch when you turn the switch to start, do you have voltage at the coil in the solenoid?

2009 HHR won't start. Battery is good.

Is the security light on or blinking? If not then do you have power to the starter. You can check this with a test light. You should have power when you turn the key to start. The test light should light up.Should be the small wire.I believe it is purple in color. If the security light is on then you will have to get the codes to see what is causing the no start.Hope this helps.Good luck.

Hey there, I have a P reg Audi A4 avant sport. The initial problem was that the ignition key did not spring back from cranking the starter motor, I believe this has caused my bigger problem which is that I...

It sounds like you have 2 problems.

The first is the ignition switch. Call or visit your Audi dealer and ask about a recall for your ignition switch. I believe it should be replaced under recall.

Next, it sounds like the starter solenoid is not engaging. The starter has probably been damaged due to the faulty switch.

The third, and I hope it is not the case, is that the teeth on the flywheel which engage the starter are damaged and missing.

Once the starter is removed it will be obvious if there is damage to the flywheel.

Good luck.
