Clunking sound when going over bumps, especially at lower speeds

JACK UP THE FRONT OF THE CAR AT THE FRAME TILL THE TIRE IS OFF THE GROUND.THEN TRY MOVING THE STRUT AND THE SPRING!!ALSO LOOK AT THE SWAY BAR LINKS CONNECTED TO THE LOWER A ARM OR STRUT!!

Have the shocks been replaced? Have the control arm suspension bushings be checked for wear?

check the lower control arm bushings and engine cradle bushings for wear.

This is to Funny cause i have done all the same things and also changed the struts and still have this clunking noise , Now there is a creeeeeking noise when the car turns .lol . Now the sterring wheel shakes at low and high speeds . I am now thinking that it might need new wheel bearings

Sounds like broken spring, or collapsed suspension strut, or collapsed wheel baring, or broken upper or lower control arm or extremely worn bushes, or all the above. what is it your driving? what sort of bumps? speed bumps? or 4x4ing bumps? or just general bumps in the road?

It is most likely the control arm bushings. These are notorious for going out on Cobalts. I have had mine replaced twice.

The control arms on both the driver and passenger side have rubber bushings which probably deteriorated. This is causing metal to hit metal when the car goes over bumps.

The bushings themselves are relatively inexpensive; you can most likely pick them up at a dealership for under $40. The only issue is installing them. You have to use a hydraulic press to press the old bushings out and press the new bushings in. This isn't difficult, but you need the equipment.

could be a strut, frame bushing or balljoint

This is most likely one or both of these:

The intermediate steering shaft loses lubrication and develops a clunk - this is an engineering deficiency in many GM products dating back to the early 90s.

and/or

The electrically assisted steering column actually has plastic gears in it which wear down quickly, get sloppy and cause clunking through the steering wheel.

If your car is out of warranty, this will be expensive.

GM knows about both of these issues, and continues to engineer these problems into their products.

he's probably right but call gm dealership maybe there a recall on them and ask for those bushing hope it help fixya our post thanks pierre
