How do you program key for a 2000 saturn - 2000 Saturn SL

2000 and newer Saturn's with plastic at the top of the keys have a chip in the keys and if lost you will have to get your car towed to the dealer or have a lock smith to come to your home to program your new key

You will have to program you keys to the immobiliser in the car. The keys transmit a code to the immobiliser in the car and if you have fitted anew ignition switch you will have new keys with the wrong transponder. You may be able to fix it by replacing the new transponder in the new key with the old transponder out of the old key

Call a locksmith. There's not really much that you can do if the notches on the key are off by enough to cause this.

First check your positive battery cable. I have seen, especially on the Saturn, where the positive cable gets corroded through the cable and will not allow any power through it. Also check all fuses in the fuse box under the hood, especially the large green 30 amp fuses. If that does not help then check the fusible link between the starter and the alternator. I have seem some of those fail, but usually the car still had power.

turn your steering wheel back and forth while turning the key. sometimes the lock has pressure on it and the key doesnt have the leverage to unlock it

You need to take it to the dealer as they are the only ones who can program your PCM.

try putting the shifter in N and move the pressure off the wheel.

take your VIN # to the dealer to cut new key. the keys do not need to be programed

sell it for cheap.
