Hey guys it\'s been a while since I have posted the Neon was doing fine until today.
I noticed that the neon was being less responsive during shifts.
I was at a red light and when it turned green the car is still in "Drive" gear, I pressed the gas pedal and immediatly I noticed that it over- revved the engine before the car started moving in gear. I thought it was slipping a gear which got me nervous.
But on the entire drive home every red light or stop sign the car would do the same thing. The engine felt like it was over-revving before the car even started to move, so I did an experiment, at the next available stop sign, I slowed down and stopped with the car still in "drive" and then before I started to go I shifted it down to the "1" gear and pressed down on the gas, then shifted up to gear "2" and then finally "drive" and the car responded better, I did this for about 3 or 4 more stop signs and red light and I noticed the engine gauge going to overheat indicator.
This doesn\'t even tell you how wonky the transmission was. I was trying to parallel park when I got home, and I shifted to reverse to back up but the car lurched foward and that really scared me because it was in "reverse" on the transmission but it lurched foward, twice so i shifted it into "drive" mode and parked the car in front and once I got in to the parking spot I have to straighten the car so I shifted back to "reverse" and the car over-revved but then the reverse gear worked afterwards.
Not sure what is going on, the transmission shifted fine earlier today in the morning but NOW the transmission is acting bad.
I hope it is NOT a dead transmission.

you can guess all day, his ENIGNE OVERHEATS. post answer for FIRST ORDER FAILURES.
gary, why blame any sensor with NO Tests done, why guess, there is no reason to guess. but here is my guess. never doing coolant system service by the book or runing the themostat for 18 years and expecting it to work, FAIL there huh, or the radiator cloggged with the RED sluddge, did you look there? or even the level or the precentage antifreeze, can add 10o more cooling checks, ask.
he has many posts and it will be hard to find out what is going on, with that many posts on one car (has others too) but he needs to use a scan tool , plug it in and stop working blind. post your scanned data, and DTC. and we can help.
the TCM can go to limphome just like the engine the FSM covers this and vast other tests to determine causation, they have a whole set of tests. for ON CAR transmission checks. RTM read the RSM and that means scan it first and check levels of ATF and fuse are really first (always) The FSM cover this ,or read alldata.com, the next test there is to check tranny fuel pressure. when you post the true transmission ID number we can anwer better, but the trans has a TCm and can be scanned for errors even before 1998. it will REPORT slip, IT WILL

one word , the transmission slips. (never drive a slipping tranny)
overheat indicator.! that is key.
many newer cars will change the transmission shifting any time
the engine over heats.
and overheat wins over transmission , every time.
if the engine burns up, what good is any transmission.? nada.
solve overheat first.
slip or flare.
is when the engine RPM rises fast and the car dont go faster.
SLIPS.
and slipping burns up trannyclutchs and increases the damage. inside the transmission, dont do that. dont allow it,
park it and fix it.
on some tranny there is a temperature sensor that the TCM
watches and changes shift patterns based on AFT fluid temps.
and if the ATF fluid gets too hot , it takes actions. to keep the tranny from harm.
why not get a scan too and see what DTC errors there are..
DTC, engine overheate.
DTC< tranny overheat (caused by above)
NO REVERSE ON TRANSMISSION
It
can be issue with gears or problem with transmission and needs to be rebuilt.
Also get the tranny fluid checked. If it's low, then such problems
occurs.
To
