My speedometer stopped working on my 97 Honda Accord EX

When I started driving my speedometer started jumping from 0-60 sparatically, and then it eventually stayed at 0. Sometimes it'll tell me how fast I'm going for a millisecond, then it spazzes out again and jumps back up then down to zero. =[

Which speed sensor is it? I seen a few different ones for my 97 accord ex. there's one that looks like a sensor, and one that has some kind of line (tube) with it.

I am no Honda expert, but a similar problem happened to my ex sister in-laws Ford Taurus. The speed odometer would jump around and it had trouble shifting (automatic transmission). After driving it I changed out the speed odometer sensor on the transmission and it's been fine ever since. I changed out the sensor because if the cars computer cannot tell how fast the car is traveling then fail safes in place go into effect and the computer will do it's best to keep the cars rpm's down based on the speed indicator and not let it shift or shift properly either. If it's getting false speeds then it will shut down the motor when the speed gets to high and allow it to run as the speeds fall (jumping speed odometer needle). It effects the transmission shift points also. It will either shift erratically or not shift out of say 2nd gear, so that the cars engine can't get damaged based on what signal the speed sensor is sending the computer.

95 honda accord speedometer works some times goes on and off but the real problem is when driving from a dead stop car takes off fine but when it switches gears losses power(torque) and does not switch...

Sounds like the sending unit to the speedometer is failing. This causes the speedometer to jump around and confuses the heck out of the electronics that controls your automatic transmission.

1996 honda accord odometer not working the speedometer works but the odometer doesn't also the trip meter doesnt work either just all of a sudden stopped working

Hello,

Were you able to fix your problem? I'm having the same issue with my car, where the Odometer intermittently jumps from 0-48. At times when I start driving the engine stalls and the Odometer starts to act up. The Egine Light is always on. I would appreciate any help.

1994 honda accord speedometer works sparatically

Remove the speedo cable and examine for damage ie rounding of tip or broken teeth on gear. Otherwise the speedo itself should be taken to a instrument repair shop for repair.

My 95 honda accord ex d4 light is flashing also my speedometer jumps or quits working altogether what is the problem?

When the D4 light flashes that is an indication of a problem with the transmission. You need a speed sensor located on the transmission make sure to get the electrical part ths will solve BOTH problems.

Honda Accord EX 94 vss has been replaced, but still nothing work

If all the connection and power supplies to instrument cluster are ok,I suspect that the speedometer or instrument cluster is faulty but before you replace it, make sure the gear inside the transmission that drives the VSS is in good.

Flashing green s on the dash

A green flashing "S" is similar to a check engine light. It is telling you that something in or on your transmission is not functioning correctly, such as the speed sensor or shift control solenoids. If it starts flashing and the speedometer stops working or the transmission shifts weird, take it to a mechanic.
