Youtube is a great source of fix it videos but you may not find your make or model. it will give you a good general idea though. autozone.com has information for parts location and replacement that may be of help. you may also find help in the form of a service manual such as chilton's or haynes'

What is the fuel rail pressure sensor?
If it is a 4.6L V8 or a 4.0 V6 engine, the ford part number is 9F927. The price according to fordparts.com is $181 and that is list price just for the part and does not include labor to install the part. Have you had the Error codes pulled from the ODB II port? if not, you need too. The codes could tell us what part of the sensor is a problem and help tell exactly what the problem might be. The sensor could have a broken wire going to it causing it to light the "Check Engine Light" (or CEL) and the sensor could be fine if the wire is repaired.
I don't have a ford explorer but MOST fuel injection systems by using fuel to cool the injectors and the injector is given more fuel than it needs to run the engine. Any fuel not used by the injectors for combustion is returned to the tank and the fuel is placed back in the tank to be used by the fuel system again. If the fuel pressure regulator is controlled by the fuel pressure sensor and the injectors are injecting more fuel for combustion, you could be running rich and your exhaust will be very black and sooty at the tail pipe. Come back with the CEL Code and maybe we can find out more about the exact problem with your car.

1999 S10 Gas gauge bounces from empty to full, nothing between
This problem is caused by the fuel level sensor inside the gas tank, you will need to drop the fuel tank out or remove the pickup bed to access the level sensor which is part of the fuel pump module on most GM products. The part is about $200.00 and 3 hours to install. See picture below. You can buy the part at a very good price from the on line company I use for parts www.rockauto.com

such as a fuel sensor,why would you ask
again,we don't have your vehicle to test,
as they did.

This problem is caused by a defective fuel gage sending unit, the sending unit is located inside the fuel tank and is part of the fuel pump module but is sold separately in a kit from ACDelco, to replace the fuel gage sending unit requires the fuel tank be removed from the car. Replacing all this you surely set the alarm off. Turn the car on, don't start . let sit for ten minutes, turn off, don't remove the key. do this three times. after the third time you turn it off, if it was the security, then the car should start. Let me know And we can go fdrom there.

2006 Envoy fuel sensor failure
the sending unit for the gas gauge is in the fuel tank and part of the fule pump module, it is not sold seperately. price around $350.00, 2 hours labor to install the part. see photo

Gas guage reads full all the time
