SOURCE: Automatic Transmission fluid level

Here is the step by step on how to do it.

Be sure that transmission fluid temperature is at least 104° F (40° C). To access check/fill plug: In the engine compartment, remove clamp from air hose behind cooling fan. Separate air tube from the hose and push the tube back towards the transaxle. Remove the clip holding the two power steering lines together. All Models: From underneath vehicle remove the transaxle check/fill plug with engine running. Fluid level should be even with hole. Add fluid as needed until fluid flows from hole. Replace check/fill plug and torque to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm).

2004 olds alero transmission fluid how much to fill up

fill it to just above the low level , check it while it is running, (in park) ;-) on a level surface. drive it around the block to warm up the trans, check it again, if it is still low then add some to the full line, check again while running. (don't add fluid when running) it should stay at the full mark at this point.

How do you check the transmission fluid on the alero ? i can not find a dip stick

TRANSMISSION DONT HAVE A DIP STICK.IT HAS A RED FILLER CAP INSTEAD.TO CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID THE CAR HAS TO PUT ON A LIFT LEVEL.TRANSMISSION HAS A CHECK PLUG.ITS UNDER THE EXTENSION HOUSING.THE OIL PAN DRAIN PLUG IS BELOW IT.YOU NEED A DRAIN PAN AND THE CAR NEED TO BE RUNNING AT OPERATING TEMPERATURE.WITH ENGINE RUNNING YOU REMOVE THE CHECK PLUG.IF NO FLUID DIPS OUT YOU NEED TO ADD SOME FLUID.IT FLUID POURS OUT YOU HAVE TOO MUCH TRANSMISSION FLUID IN SYSTEM.IF YOU GET A SLOW DRIP YOU HAVE THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF FLUID IN TRANSMISSION.THE CAR HAS TO BE LEVEL AND YOU PUT FLUID IN THE TOP OF TRANSMISSION WHERE THE RED VENT FILL CAP IS.YOU NEED A LONG LONG FUNNEL TO PUT FLUID IN WITH OUT SPILLING FLUID ALL OVER THE PLACE.

Low Transmission Fluid in 2003 Oldsmobile Alero

  • This care does not have a dipstick but can easily be checked at home.

  1. 1. Warm the car up to running temperature.
  2. 2. Park it on a level surface.
  3. 3. Leave the car running and set the emergency /parking brake. Also set bricks in front and behind the wheels.
  4. 4. Look on the passenger side of the transmission (underneath the car)
  5. 5. You will see a 10mm bolt a little bit inward from the right axle on the transmission itself.
  6. 6. Have a drain pan ready and pull that bolt.
  7. 7. If fluid comes out it is full.
  8. 8. If no fluid comes out then add ATF III in the fill port on top of the transmission until the fluid just barely seeps out of that hole you removed the bolt from.
  9. 9. This port is on top of the transmission (under the hood) and is usually red or black in color.
  10. 10. The transmission is now full and ready to go.
  • Hope this helps.
