The alarm will chirp when I hit the keyless entry button, but the car will not lock or unlock.
Hard to find anything similar but most other remote fob problems are resolved by changing the battery in the fob, let me know how you get on, have attached a link that may be of help if the new battery does'nt solve the issue
Key Fob Remote Programming Instructions 2007 Chevrolet Aveo Key Fob...
SOURCE: programing keyless entry
If you have an owners manual the programming instructions are in there. If no manual here they are:
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Ground the receiver program terminal. Jump the two terminals located in the programing ground connector. (What this means in simple terms is locate the wires that run on the right side of the trunk. There is two black wires that has a plug on the end with two prongs. It is in between the antenna and tail lights.)
3. Within 2 seconds of connecting the prongs the door locks will lock. The unlock and the rear compartment lid release will produce a cycle, causing the horn to chirp. This indicates that the module is ready for reprogramming.
4. Press and hold the lock and unlock buttons at the same time until the doors lock and unlock. The rear compartment lid will release and the horn sounds to indicate that the transmitter has successfully been reprogrammed. (Hold buttons down for approximately 12 seconds)
5. Repeat the previous step for the remaining transmitters.
6. Remove the jumper at the program connector.
7. Verify the proper operation of each transmitter

There is 3 relays in one of the fuse panels that are labeled doorlocks one of them is probably bad. Push the door lock button and find the one that is clicking this is the one that is back. This should fix your problem

this happened to me and it drove me crazy for a few days. check that the hood is closed tightly. its held shut for the most part by a peice of metal with a screw on one side, a spring around it, and a nub looking shape that fits into the locking device above the bumper. When i finally checked my hood, the entire bit of metal had come unscrewed and was stuck in the locking device, leaving my hood held shut only by the safety clamp. remove it from the locking part and screw it back into the hood, closing it a few times to find the right distance to screw it in. lock your car and hear that chirp, that should fix it
if thats not the case then check that all of the doors are closed nice and tight... if the doors lock but the audible alarm is not armed then that is most likely the case

go to autozone and use the remote tester on the counter to make sure that the remote itself is functioning or not, could be a dead battery. On some vehicles it is possible to reset the keyless entry by turning the ignition switch from off to run (right before the starter activates) 3 times or so, if you try this and the door locks activate then press the lock button on your remotes. good luck
