Engine shudders and dies trying to go from a red light

2000 Mazda 626 LX 12200ish miles after driving for a 10-20 minutes the engine shakes and dies and wont start for 30-60 minutes of sitting somewhere. The mechanics tried to find out whats wrong but it wouldnt die for them. Help?

sounds like vapor lock due to fuel vaporizing. Could be fuel filter plugged or fuel pump failing. Can you spray starting fluid into the air cleaner and have it start when this is happening?

Could be the check valve in the fuel pump, try turning the ignition on, then wait for about 10 seconds, then try starting....Ian.

The engine has an electronic module where the spark plug wires connect to. Replace this and you will see the difference. Once this module heats up it will malfunction. After cooling down the car will start up again. hope this helps.

2000 mazda 626 driving down highway then just dies.. timing belt or fuel pump/filter?

By you saying the engine "Dies" I am going to assume it restarts.
If the timing belt failed the engine would not start again until the belt was replaced.
So it could be a fuel or electrical problem.

2000 MAZDA 626 LX 2.0 tries to die at lights or stop signs. Runs fine otherwise.

Engine stalling and rough run issue at low speeds

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control

1999 Mazda LX stopped running about 1/10th of a mile after starting the car. Checked the fuel pump and it is good.

Try pulling the vacuum hose off of the EGR valve as it starts to hesitate just before it dies. If the engine dies try pulling the hose off and then restarting the engine. If that doesn't help replace the fuel filter and check the fuel pump relay.

First look at this and make sure the plug wires are connected correctly. 3e7c3d3.png
If the plug wires are correct then it is obvious that the cam belt was installed incorrectly of a sensor was damaged during the installation. Take it back to the person who replace the belt and nicely demand they fix it.

99 mazda 626 lx -i have a slow oil leak. only leaks when i drive.

It sounds like it's actually burning the oil, rather than leaking it then, I'm assuming that your usage is a lot more than the drop you mention. The entire car has 234k on it? (or did you mean just the trans?) With that many miles I wouldnt be surprised if your valves are letting a little oil slip into the combustion chamber. If the usage is bad enough, it may be time for a valve job, or even a rebuild.

sounds like the head or head gasket is blown. your cylinders may be getting coolant in them which will not only cause the motor to lockup, but also cause bent rods and valves. check your oil dipstick and transmission dipstick to see if it looks like water or coolant is presant, also check the coolant to see if it smells like gas or has any kind of oil in it, if so, your head is likely blown.
