There is a locking solenoid under the plastic shroud around you shifter. When you put on your brake the solenoid is supposed to pull back to release the shifter. The buzzing you are hearing is that solenoid trying to pull back. Going to have to replace it.
Impreza torque settings MUST be done in the correct sequence,its critical when re building.
If you have a local garage who are friendly with, ask if they have autodata.If so they can print you a torque sequence and settings.
Try replacing the transmission filter and the trannie fluid. Mine would only go in reverse, and now it drives pretty well. This year has a screw on filter. Hope this helps
