1993 Jeep Wrangler 2.5L won't hold a charge/kills battery even while not in use. Nothing added that would drain battery. Replaced alternator and after jump start, voltage gauge shows about 10v and goes down rapidly. Same reading alternator and new battery? Any ideas on what to check and how to test the ECU/ECM?
Nothing wrong with the ECM unless it has the voltage regulator as part of the system
indicates faulty wiring and faulty alternator
have a load test done on the battery
have an auto electrician do a full charging system check
charging voltage should be 14.5-14.8 volts DC
battery voltage should be 12-13.5 volts dropping to 11 volts when cranking the engine
make sure that the drive belt tension is correct and the belt is in good condition

Check the Belt Tensioner. If the Tensioner is not Keeping the Belt Tight it will Drain the Battery Pretty Fast. Please Rate my Response, I need all the Help That I can Get! Thanks!

I wont list this as a solution, but it seems that working in the area of the alt may have moved around some wiring...the alt may be OK but perhaps an adjacent wire (maybe a ground) is not well connected. Also check crimped on wire loops on alt connectors..they like to corrode at the crimp where it crushes on the actual wire.
SOURCE: 2001 Jeep wrangler not charging. Alternator has
on the field wires ones a posative and one a negative and the single post gets connected to a wire that runs straight to the main fuse box in the engine compartment then is fused to another wire that goes to the battery have that fuse checked it could be your problem as far as the feild wires the positive side only works when you start the vehicle up to engage the field

On the terminal maked"l" you need to put switched power from the ignition[ the problem], will go away.If this is not an option then you can get an alternator repair shop to put a self exciting regulater and it will kick in with a quick rev of the engine,no wireing required
