SOURCE: how to reset the ABS

i think you have metal shavings on the abs wheel sensor. did you go metal to metal on the brakes? new caliper right? disconect the battery for 10 mins that should do it. first clean that sensor off it might reset itself good luck

SOURCE: abs light is on? 2004 chevy avalanche

what i've seen with the k series chevrolet trucks is that the wheel speed sensors develop corrosion where the sensor mounts to the hub. you can start by taking the sensor out and cleaning off the mounting surface with a wire brush. the process is:

1. raise front of vehicle onto jackstands
2. remove front wheels
3. remove the brake caliper, bracket and rotor on both sides
4. remove wheel speed sensor via 1 torx bolt (be carefull as the corrosion will cause the sensor to "stick" in the hole)
5. clean the mating surfaces with a wire brush so the sensor bolt hole and mounting surface on the hub is shiney again.
6. if you can, pick up a can of rust preventing primer and spray a little on the surfaces to prevent further corrosion
7. let paint dry
8. apply a thin fil, of grease to the sensor and the sensor mounting spot on the hub
9. re-install sensor
10. revers steps 3-1 for re-installation.

*process is the same for both sides.

this was a common problem on the k series trucks.

while your in there it wouldn't be a bad idea to check the sensors wires to make sure they arent broken. let me know if the repair works for you

SOURCE: Chevy Cavalier 2001 ABS Brake problem

You don't say what brakes.

I have had many cavys and worked on them. Great cars.

Your problem sounds like a **** rear wheel cylinder and bad drums/rotors and abs sensor wire.

My car just did everything you describe, I put in new wheel cylinders, drums, brakes, rotors, and 2 new rear brake lines. For less than 200 bucks the car is like new again and has well over 100k.

You can do it yourself. Doesn't take special tools. I followed online how-to's.

SOURCE: I have 1999 chevy cavalier. My ABS light is oh.

Drive it. Then have the rear abs brake sensors checked because they seem to be the first to go in a system like that. Someone with a scan tool should be able to read out any trouble codes in the abs system

SOURCE: 96 Chevy Cavalier brake pedal to the floor

First check your brake fluid.
Either you have a failing brake booster, or you have developed a leak in one of your brake lines. If your brake line is leaking, it should be pretty evident, i.e. oily looking substance sprayed underneath the vehicle or in the wheel wells, if the booster is leaking (the large black/silver almost bowl shaped thing directly in front of the driver under the hood against the back wall) there will most likely be fluid dripping down the firewall below it, if your brake fluid is extremely low/empty, you probably have a leak, that could be at the booster or on a line, or even at the caliper/drum. If it is empty (which can make your ABS light, light up) then you have yourself a leak. Also, if the fluid is really low, you could try adding some, although you will have air in the lines if it was low enough to floor the brake, but you might be able to find the leak if you refill the fluid and cause it to spray from the leak again. Have someone watch under the vehicle while you do this.

Toyota cavalier 1996 the abs light, how?

Toyota cavalier??? Chevy tacoma???
You might have a wheel sensor issue (part of the wheel bearing assembly) It tell the abs computer the wheel speed, and if one is bad, it will error the abs, and turn the light on. You can get this checked with an abs scanner hooked up, or ohm out all of your speed sensors with a meter.

How do I turn off my service, abs, and trac off lights off and why would they be on? I have a 2004 Chevy Cavalier with the 2.2 Ecotec engine

Service light can be turned if with an OBII scanner (Autozone or any good parts store can reset service light for FREE) The ABS & trace control lights are in because you have a wheel sensor(s) that are bad - replace bad sensor and then a certified shop or dealer has to reset ABS light (EXPENSIVE TOOL)

Abs and trac light stays on on 2004 chevy cavalier when i turn the steering wheel.both abs sensors were changed and no noticable braking problems.what could it be?

you will have to check the abs wiring harness. the wires going to the wheel speed sensors are more than likely broken setting the code and turning the abs light on. hope this helps.

Take your vehicle in immediately. If this many lights are coming on, it could be a problem with the computer. Worse yet, it could mean:
1) your ABS isn't working
2) you could have serious engine problems
3) You could loose your braking

The brake light comes on for two reasons - the e-brake is on, or there is a problem with the braking system. If your e-brake is off, worry.

Drive slowly to a repair shop you trust and get diagnostics run on it. Go from there.

I hope for your sake it's just a small problem.

Good Luck,
Hope this helps 2 Pts Rate Answer
