Did you put at least 3 gallons in?
There's usually garbage such as rust at the bottom of your fuel tank, and running out drags it into the fuel line. The three gallon suggestion is a good start (so to speak) but if you still can't start the engine you might have to remove the fuel tank and take out the tank unit for a clean. There's a rubber seal around it so if it's original this will probably need to be replaced.
Sorry it posted Before I was ready. You will want to test it first: Remove the top from your carburettor and make sure there's fuel getting to it. If it's not full, the fuel line is likely blocked or by some coincidence the fuel pump happens to have failed at the exact same moment.

Make sure you have added at least several gallons of fuel. If it still doesn't start, check the fuel pump pressure at the front of the engine. Some fuel pumps will burn out very easily if they are run out of fuel, especially if you tried to crank the engine several times when there was no fuel in it, (the fuel cools the fuel pump, and if the tank is empty, - no fuel to cool the pump, and the pump burns out)
