Setting timing chain

The timing chain cover torque specs for a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am with the 3400 engine are 11 Nm (8 lb ft) for the M8 bolts and 25 Nm (18 lb ft) for the M10 bolts.

Hi there, the following information are for a 2004 Grand Am 2.2L, I hope it helps:

Timing Chain, Sprockets, and/or Tensioner Replacement

Tighten the chain guide bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
Tighten the chain tensioner bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
Tighten the oil nozzle bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
Timing chain tensioner guide bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
Timing chain bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
Chain guide plug to 90 N·m (66 lb ft).
Timing chain upper guide bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
Timing chain tensioner to 75 N·m (55 lb ft).
Camshaft bolts to 85 N·m (63 lb ft) plus 30 degrees.

Have to remove the front timing cover
& replace the gears & chain set on a V6

You don't need to know timing specs unless your installing a high performance cam and you have an adjustable timing chain set. You didn't spec the moter and there's more than one that comes in your car 3.9, 4.0,4.7, 5.2, 5.9. Tell what motor your working on and what kind of timing componants your trying to install. and I'll help you more. Stock or replacement stock you just line upp the marks. tell the engine I'll tell you where the marks are. If in doubt the intake valve opens between10 and 3 degrees before top dead center about on any engine some racing engines open the intake as much as 23 degrees before TDC but they don't idel smooth and their drivers don't care either.

Hey, I just posted the complete procedure for replacing a timing belt, what specs are you looking for? The belt tension is spring preloaded...nothin' to adjust.

if u mean set the timing....u need the proper tools .....and specs ....and if you have changed timing belts or chains .....replacement procedure is very precise....;-)....but with proper timing light an specs setting timing is relatively easy........but in order to tell u i need to know what timing light ur using....

Well I just looked up the specs for you for the 2.7 ltr. I hope this is what you want.
Cam Caps 105 in.lbs.
Cam Sprocket 250 in.lbs.
Crank Dampener 125 ft.lbs.
Cylinder Head Cover 105 in.lbs.
Here is an illustration of the timing chain set up. Be aware these marks are lined up with the three sets of plated links on the chain. You should easily identify them if you have a new chain. You may have to clean an old chain to see them.

i have done a few timing chains, you should go get a manual so you can go back and reference when you need to. I can tell you this "do not" move the cam or crank when the belt or chain is off. Hope it helps
