2001 chevy silverado

I have a 2001 Silverado with a 4.8L V-8. After cranking on occasion the low fuel light will come on even with a full tank. If you shift it to drive and then back to park the light will usually go out. It comes back on on occasion and goes out without any action on my part. Any ideas

If you're finding it difficult to service/repair your car, get one of those online manuals. You'll not have to wait for others to answer, or rely on mechanics and all. Plus I know a website that has very good manuals online, without expiry i.e. for lifetime.

SOURCE: Fuel Sending unit on a 2000 Chevy Silverado

if it is the fuel level sending unit you will have to replace the pump because they are a 1 piece assambly. it will be a task to change too as you will need to either remove the truck bed or drop the fuel tank to get to it.

SOURCE: 2001 chevy silverado, low fuel light on w/full tank

My 2001 Silverado with 113,000 mi has the same problem. I was told that with the fuel formula change in last few years it has affected vehicles 2002 or 2003 and older because it has corroded the metal that the float moves on. Mine will at times start working when it's 3/4 or less gas in the tank. My solution is to reset the trip od at every fill up. I get approx 450 mi on a tank but refill at 400 to be on the safe side.

This answer I got makes sense to me, but who knows.

2001 silverado v6 died while pulling into parking lot. Cranks but won't start. Can't hear the fuel pump engage when I turn on the key. Replaced fuel pump relay. Does this mean I have a bad fuel pump?

Try spraying an alternative fuel such as induction cleaner into the throttle body and see if it runs.If it does most likely cause is the fuel pump.

2000 Chevy Silverado 1500 Replace the fuel pump - ?

First check the fuel pump fuse in the fuse panel to make sure its not blown. Chances are that it is the fuel pump, that is a common problem with chevy trucks. The easiest way to access the fuel pump is to remove the bed of the truck from the frame. Good luck. dont forget to rate.

Fuel sensor gauge

you will need to replace the fuel level sensor.(sending unit) it is in the tank and is hooked to the fuel pump. you can buy seperatly from pump. you may finf it easier to remove the bed if you have some help. it is six or eight bolts and harness unplugs then you can get right to it.
