Hello Amy, not a POS, just has quirks like all vehicles do. It's a very good engine. I'm going to address the bad idle which is very common after the battery was disconnected for any reason. This is a job that you can do yourself for around $8. Remove fuses # 10 and # 28 under the hood, then remove the throttle body and clean both sides with a sensor safe spray like Seafoam. It's just 4 bolts and a electrical connector that it. This will solve your rough idle when every your AC or Defroster are on. The other lights, do they go off if you turn the car off and restart with the steering wheel pointing straight?

SOURCE: 96 olds 88 3.8l not turbo ,vin code k

can you hear the starter spin faintly when you jump it? like if the solenoid wasn't engaging into the flywheel? other than that i think you got everything covered.... did they load test the starter or just put power to it and spin it up? also make sure the copper wire from the main lug on the starter to the brushes inside the starter is not damaged or missing.. take some jumper cables and hook them to your battery and then directly to the starter and see if it spins it up if not try that with a different battery,, if still no go buy a new starter it may not be performing under heavy load good luck please rate -jeff

SOURCE: when i start my car you smell gas ,and it smoke.

HTML clipboard If you can smell gas ONLY when the engine is running, then the gas didn't get burned completely. It could be the combination of the computer, oxygen sensors, and/or catalytic converter is going bad. If you could smell gas when it's parked, you might want to take it to a mechanic to have your gas line checked for leaks and for pressure test. Here's a website that talk a little about gas smell www.mycarsmellsbad.com good luck.

Dan how do I bleed 2004 Kia coolant car temp is good but sometime at idle heater starts to blow cool hit throttle gets great heat

I agree with your logic. Attached vid addresses bleeding. Sounds like at low rpms, not enough flow to transfer the heat. So bubble or maybe a partially obstructed core. There are a couple of vids on clearing a core... GOod luck, let us know if you figure it out.

1997 Toyota Truck 4 Runner 4WD 3.4L EFI DOHC 6cyl, blown head gasket?

Could be a blown head gasket. You might also need to "burp" the system. When the vehicle is completely cooled down, try taking the radiator cap off, topping off fluid, and start the engine. That should help get air out. If it starts bubbling and shooting coolant out, something is wrong. You could also try running without the thermostat or just go ahead and replace it. They aren't usually expensive.

Mustang ran hot now starts but engine sounds rough, still running hot

this could be a number of problems , firstly with engine running remove radiator cap see if large bubbles of air appear, blown head gasket. second depending how long engine is running before temp rises to overheating, thermostat. third, O2 sensor could be damaged this will cause rough running and slight increase in engine temp.(unlikely if idles well) fourthly damaged valves (inlet/exhaust)

1997 dodge avenger es 2.0, when first started weather its hot or cold will run great hold idle at 1k rpm, after a min or so it starts to drop in idle, but when its on the road it runs fine no issues except...

Sounds like your idle air control valve is bad. This valve, like it sounds, controls the idle on your vehicle and from what you make it sound like you are having idle issues. The IAC is located on your throttle body and is pretty easy to change out. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks for rating my response and for using FixYa!

Temp guage barely moves and runs rough just off idle

Try a full tune up.. get Bosch platnium+4 spark plugs and Acel wires, do the fuel filter and air filter(i suggest K&N) buy some fuel injector cleaner or use Marvel Mystery oil. The ECU could e gone but hard to diagnose if the car needs a tune up.

2000 Elantra Overheating

First when vehicle is cold like in the morning check and make sure that the vehicle has enough coolant/ antifreeze in radiator and reservoir. If coolant is need use a 50/50 mixture of water and antifreeze. You will need some time to do this let car run at idle until the temp guage is in the middle NOT+ normal operating temperature. At this point if the thermostat should be in the open position. Let vehicle run and check to make sure that radiator fan comes on. This should come on when guage is about midway/half way. If temperature rises above half going to h/hot and fan doesn't come on, you either have a BAD FAN BAD FAN SWITCH BAD FAN RELAY OR BLOWN FAN SWITCH FUSE. You will need to check all of the following I will help if its needed. If fan comes on and doesn't go off and vehicle continues to get hot even with fan running. Feel radiator hoses and see if the lower radiator hose is cool/cold. If it is you have thermostat that stuck closed. Replace thermostat and fix problem. If all the above is good and vehicle continues to over heat. THE BAD NEW IS THAT YOU MAY HAVE A BLOWN HEAD GASKET /CRACKED HEAD /BROKEN WATER JACKET. Basically you will need a HEAD JOB at least a head gasket. ONe tell tail sign of this is oil looking like milkshake/chocolate milk-a creamish while residue in oil or antifreeze. Contact if you need hel0p. Good Luck and thanks for using FIX YA
