Replaced 2 modules with in 1 year
SOURCE: 02 SS Monte Carlo , dash lights have quit working,
this only occured when the ambient light sensor turned on the headlights when it got to dark. if that is happening then check the headlight switch, the one that also dims the interior lights. mine had a burnt connector and fried the circuit board. replaced it and it works good. check for lose wires and connectors in there as well which likely caused the short.

Below the instrument panel on the left side henge pillar,or up high behind the Instrument panel depending the model and options!
SOURCE: I am looking for the location of the body control
Hello t_odge1381: My name is Roger and I will help you. To locate the BCM remove the passenger side instrument panel insulator.Disconnect the negative battery cable. (NOTE, Be sure to record the radio access code so you can unlock when done) You should be able to see the BCM tucked up behind the dash panel. Will have three wire pack connectors. You can not just take a BCM from a salvage vehicle and install in your car. Whether it is new or rebuilt it has to be programed to your specific automobile.Otherwise the computer will lock it self out.So to replace it you must find someone who can program the BCM for your car. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer. This way I know it was helpful. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

When a malfunction such as a open fuse to a module occurs while modules are communicating, a Loss of Communication DTC is set as current. When the modules stop communicating, ignition is turned off, the current Loss Communication DTC is cleared but the history DTC remains. When the modules begin to communicate again, the ignition is turned on, the module with the open fuse will not be learned by the other modules so U1000 or U1255 is set current by the other modules. If the malfunction occurs when the modules are not communicating, only U1000 or U1255 is set.
