My Key got stuck in my 2007 Ford Fusion AWD V6, the only way I could get it out is to disconnect the battery. After researching, I disconnected the interlock sensor which allows the key to be removed but it also disables the mechanism that allows the shifter to shift easily out of park. I can push down on the manual override and shift out of park easily but I need a solution that allows me to remove the key and shift smoothly out of park without an issue. Appreciate any help... Thanks in advance.

Do you know how to do electrical testing with a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter ?
PINPOINT TEST A: THE SHIFT INTERLOCK SYSTEM DOES NOT RELEASE/LOCK CORRECTLY
Test Step Result / Action to Take
A1 TEST THE BRAKE LIGHTS
Apply the brake pedal and view the brake lights.
Do the brake lights illuminate?
Yes
GO to A2 .
No
REFER to Section 417-01 .
A2 TEST SHIFT INTERLOCK ACTUATOR POWER CIRCUIT
Disconnect: Floor Shifter Harness Connector C3245.
Key in ON position.
Vehicles equipped with a 3.0L or a 2.3L engine, measure the voltage between floor shifter harness connector C3245-1, vehicle harness side and ground, while applying the brake pedal.
Vehicles equipped with a 3.5L engine, measure the voltage between floor shifter harness connector C2096-1, vehicle harness side and ground, while applying the brake pedal.
Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
GO to A3 .
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
A3 TEST SHIFT INTERLOCK ACTUATOR GROUND CIRCUIT
Key in OFF position.
Vehicles equipped with a 3.0L or a 2.3L engine, measure the resistance between floor shifter harness connector C3245-4, vehicle harness side and ground.
Vehicles equipped with a 3.5L engine, measure the resistance between floor shifter harness connector C2096-5, vehicle harness side and ground.
Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
INSTALL a new selector lever. REFER to Selector Lever in this section.
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

SOURCE: 97 FORD E250 VAN SHIFT LOCKED IN PARK
check the brake lights to see if they work ithey do then the problem is in the locking mechanism, however if the brake lights sont work then first check the fuse, check the wires and the connector that hooks up to the brake switch under the pedal and if it is dammaged repair as needed and if yo get the lights working yo have made the lock to work also!!
SOURCE: Shifter stuck and key will not come out of ignition
You should be able to hear the clicking in the shifter and the switch--I think this is normal cause when mine is stuck in park you CANT hear it.
SOURCE: Key won't come out of ignition on 2007 ford
do you have the steering wheel turned or any tension at steering wheel? wiggle your wheel while turning the key and it
SOURCE: can't remove my key
not sure some Ford u have to push in a button to remove the key . Check and see if the model has that.
