Alternator compatablility I want to go to a salvage yard and get an alternator for my truck and was wondering if there are any other model vehicles I can pull an alternator from that will fit my truck.

There is a nationwide Salvage yard which is called Parts Galore. You need to do the work yourself, but it might be worth the effort. There is another site which is Nationwide and links independent Salvage yards and they will ship. Use an internet search for Salvage yard associations. Something like Car-partsNow.com. It has been 10 years since I used them.
They grade the quality of the parts, show pictures, and prices. They put out a request on a Watts line and them show the responses.

Problem! the are two different versions of the 4L60e transmissions a early model and the late model design the difference is the body length and the bolt on bell housing. This change happened in 1998 so you may have a problem you can verify this by calling your local salvage yard and asking what year trans will fit in your vehicle. Here is a trans application chart.
