How to adjust solid lifters with roller rockers
Http://429mustangcougarinfo.50megs.com/images/valvelash.jpg
You must remove the valvecovers to access the rocker to valve stem clearance. use the chart I added to have the engine in the correct positions for adjustment. you will need a feeler guage set also. good luck, keep me posted if any more questions

i just bought a BII with famous tick..........oil pressure light came on (no gauge). I installed mechanic gauge and showed 5 psi so I decided to replace oil pump. Pulled pan off (not fun!) the pickup tube was clogged and the was part of the timing chain tensioner in pan. I then pulled timing cover off only to find chain streched and the chain guide and tensioner pretty much gone. I think tick was chain slap..........will know for sure in a couple days.
SOURCE: lifters making noise how do you adjust them?
The engine/oil pump may be worn enough that the oil pressure is too low at idle. Suggest getting the system pressure read at your favorite service shop and get an estimate of required repairs. Have you been getting regular oil changes?

All newer vehicles use Hydraulic Lifters, if they are getting noisy or sticky, it might be time to replace them.
This car has hydraulic lifters( tappets} therefore should not adjustment, you probably have a bad or weak lifter. But, in any case you have to remove the valve covers to make the adjustment. You will see the adjustable bolt on the rocker arm. rotate the engine until the valve is all the way to the top, [no tension on the valve spring] then place a feeler Gage in between the rocker arm and the valve stem, adjust the rocker arm until the feeler Gage is snug but not tight. Do this with each valve. Check the book for the correct Gage to use but I think it is a .018.
