I had difficulty with my key in my 98 sl1 too but I discovered that I just had to push on the shifter until you hear it click, then you could jimmy the key a bit to get it out.

call the reimbursement department so they can start a recall... 1800-204-0261 we have the same promblem and they wont do a recall unless they get more complaints!!

its your jump cables are not heavy enough ,must be capable of passing 200amp minimum and your are boost cables made in china no doubt max of 10 amp for boost charging another battery not a mighty jump start ,either fit a new battery or trickle charge the old one for about a week to see if it comes back to life
