What can cause only air coming out when bleeding a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt LS? Could it be the Master Cylinder (Brake System)? How can I tell if it needs replaced?
Need to know what was done to need to bleed the brakes. Easiest way to bleed a brake system is the gravity bleed. Crack open all 4 bleeder screws a little, open your cap on the master cylinder, and wait. Make sure to keep plenty fluid in the master cylinder while doing this. After about 30 min or so you should have pure brake fluid coming out of all 4 bleeder screws. If you have one that does not have fluid coming out, tighten the others and open the one up more until fluid comes out. After all four wheels have fluid it is still a good idea to have a buddy help you bleed them once the old fashion way by pumping up the brakes, hold the pedal and crack open each beeder one at a time.

Make sure you have brake fluid in the master cylinder. Then jack up the wheel furthest from the master cylinder. remove wheel and open bleeder screw and have someone push on the pedal. Keep pumping on the pedal until you have a steady stream of fluid. Close the bleeder screw as someone is pumping on brake so you don\'t suck more air into the system. Do this with each wheel. If you can\'t get anything to come out of the front wheel bleeders, you may have a frayed brake hose. Hoses can look good on the outside but that doesn\'t mean they\'re good on the inside. Replace brake hose if you can\'t get fluid out of bleeder. Hope this helps

SOURCE: where to put steering fluit in the cobalt ls 2006
There is no place. The Cobalt has an electric power steering system. There is a bad problem with this car. My nephew had problems and when checking found out that there are way too many problems with this system. The entire steering column assembly has to be replaced. There is no recall issued on this for the Cobalt, but I heard that there was a similar issue recall for the Malibu. Hope this helps. I feel your pain!!
