Most likely a bad micro-switch in the driver door latch assembly.

does the lights go off when you start driving? I have the same problem but only the door ajar light is onnand all of the doors are shut. if I activate the the alarm, the alarm will automatically go off. I was told by my neighbor that it's probably just a bad sensor. when I get it fixed, I'll put the exact diagnosis on here.

SOURCE: message says "door ajar" but no door open

There are 2 things we see on these models. 1st one is it could be a stuck door adjar switch. For this you can try and put WD40 into the latch on the side of the door, put a generous amount directly into the latch then close and open the door several times. This will un-stick a switch most of the time.
2nd thing it could be, open the door and look at the front of the opening between door and A pillar and you will see a black rubber accordian tube running between body and door, this is where the wires run from body to door. Sometimes a wire will break inside this. You can usually verify this by taking a screwdiver and trip the latch so that it shows the door closed(even though u have it open) then wiggle that harness and see if it effects the door adjar light.

SOURCE: door ajar light stays on

go to your local parts store and buy a can of PB BLASTER lubricant then open each door and spray the latch assembley really good then close and open the door 10 to 15 times. do this with each door. the door ajar light switch is located in the door latch assembley and cannot be seen so soak the latch assembleys really good so lube reaches the switch. these switches sometimes get stuck but this usually frees up the switch

You can replace the latch inside the door. Some Ford latches have been known to cause this issue for many years now.

My passenger door sensor is not working right. It shows that the door is open when it is not. I did not think it was a big deal until the other night we were driving and the interior lights started to...

I'm not sure which passanger door you're taking about, but i'll assume it's the front passanger door. What I think is happening is that the passanger door's not pushing the Door Switch all the way down when it's close cause the light to stay on.

First check to see if the door switch(to see the switch, open passanger door and it located lower left coner. see picture below) is work by push on. The interior light should go out when push down and on when release.
k42282_35.jpg -If switch is not working, replace door switch.
-if switch is working, adjust passanger door inward by loosing the door striker(A) bolts(B) and tipping it with a hammer. Adjust until door open/close proplery and light stay off when door is close.

My car alarm keeps going off, I made sure all the doors are shut properly and all the windows are closed. What else can I do to make it stop? '99 ford escort

Depends. If it is an aftermarket alarm that didn't come with the car those are easily removed by undoing the wiring for the alarm box usually underneath the steering column. If you're not comfortable with wiring issues, a local shop should be able to do it for around 70 dollars, one hour labor. Factory alarms are different. There are door switches that regularly go bad for your car that can usually be determined if when all your doors are closed the dome light stays on or comes on. There should also be an indicator on the instrument cluster. Usually it's the driver's door(most used) that goes bad. If this malfunctions while the vehicle alarm has been set the antitheft system will think someone opened the door without unlocking it. Replacing these switches usually require removal of the door latch on the inside of the door panel. Sometimes spraying lubricant through the keyhole will help these switches work... for a while. And if all else fails, you can always unplug the horn... Good luck!

Interior lights stay and alarm goes off every time i lock it

Your car thinks a door is open , thus the light stays on. When you lock the doors with the remote it activates the alarm system. 10 sec later it senses that the a door is open and alarm sounds.
I have a 99 passat as well and I just went outside to see where the switch on the door is. Can't see one anywhere , it must be inside the door (part of the latch mechanism). I tried to arm the alarm system by locking the doors with the remote while the door was still open , sure enough the alarm went off about 15 secs later.

My 1999 lincoln continental car alarm keeps going off. How do i correct this. Can i disonnect the alarm?

This is actually a Common Problem with these cars and ford is not able to offer a definitive solution. the door sensors are an internal part on the striker itself and can become touchy over time, try spraying a little WD-40 into the spot on each door where the mechanism that latches to the post is.

Interior lights stay on and panic alarm keeps going off

You have a bad or sticking door adjar switch. The switch is located in the latch assembley inside the door. Most of the time you can take some WD40 and spray it into the latch, put a good amount on it,then open and close the door several times.

Car Alarm/Door lock

This happened to me too...It turned out to be that my door was out of adjustment, which caused the door position sensor to not know whether the door is closed or open. Sometimes my light on the inside of the door would flash (because the car thought that the door was open). Once the alarm did activate, the car would sometimes think that the door had opened, thus causing the alarm to activate. It was cheap to have fixed...I think it was less than $100 at the dealership.
