1988 porsche 944, stalled after driving 300ft after having a rough start (bad starter clicked about 8 times before starting caused rough start-since replaced) Next day fired up fine. 2 days later wouldnt start, few hours later it started fine & ran well the rest of the day. Since then the car periodically wont start, or stalls & sometimes will restart right away sometimes will not & have to wait & come back to it a few hours later or the next day & it will start right up. Does this sound like FPR? maybe fuel filter? any help would be greatly appriciated -Thanks

SOURCE: Car wont start, no clicks no sound

make sure you have power getting to your starter when you crank. check the small nut on the starter. should have 12 v or very close to it. this will tell you if your getting power to the starter or if somethign before the starter and something maybe with your anti theft system or not. its hard to say online cause of that anti theft. doest the light flash at all? the anti theft light?

if your getting power to the starter when you crank make sure your getting good power to the starter by turning on the head lights and see if they dim. a good starter will cause the headlites to dim when attempting to start. if nothing dims check connections. or assume bad starter motor. make sure your also getting power to the main starter stud as well.

good luck

SOURCE: stalls or just wont start

i've had a bunch of hondas and usually when they dont start and then start after a while it is the main relay. as far as i know they dont make them aftermarket, you need to get them from the dealer. they cost about $85 last time i bought one. it is located on the interior, drivers side, to the left of the pedals. i think it has 7 pins and is mounted by one 10mm bolt. it seems they act up mostly on hot days. good luck!

My 1987 Porsche 944 sounds like a garbage disposal with a fork stuck in it every time I try to start it and sometimes takes several times to start. my dad took the starter out and said it didn't look like...

could be bearing in starter or drive gear not properly engaging your flywheel's teeth. remove starter [note, some auto retailers will test your loose starter at no cost]. secure starter and briefly spin starter using jumper cables. 'bendix' gear should extend quickly, if not replace bendix or starter. if bearings quiet, inspect teeth on starter. if all ok, inspect flywheel edge for worn or missing teeth. if all ok, you may have an incorrect starter for your car. if correct starter you may be able to remove or insert spacers or washers to alighn gears.

I have a 1983 porsche 944 when I start it up in the morning it Idles at 1800 rpm and when I put it in drive it drops down to 1100 rpms and kinda runs rough any solutions to this

check engine light? If not add injector cleaner to a full tank of hightest. if that dosn't work do a complete tun up. also look for cracked or collapsed vacume hoses. keep in mind there are also vac hoses aroudd the gas tank area.

have you tried jump starting it?does the starter engage and try to turn the engine over?it's possible your alternator is not working properly and your battery is in a discharged state, could this be the reason you replaced the battery?try turning the engine over by hand to make sure it rotates freely.

HELP...1987 944 wont start afer replacing timing belt

Hi, You need to get your timing belt checked. Dont attempt to start the engine until your timing pullys are reset because if your cam is set wrong it WILL cause valve damage. If it is allready correctly set then i suggest you test the compresion in case damage was caused when belt was fitted. Hope all works out ok 4 you.All the best.Phil
