Had the same problem on a 2003 vibe- finally dianosed as a fried headlamp module then needing to trace back and find a short in the electrical that blew headlamp module . Module $ 170. Labor to replace module 2hrs. Labor to trace short 4 hrs??? Dealer charged me $900- .
If anyone has info on how much time it should have taken. I would appreciate the feedback

The Air Bag light is indicating it see's something wrong with the system.
Go to you local Auto Zone or Advance Auto and have them scan for codes. They will do the scan at no cost to you.
Let me know what the codes are and we can go from there.

My 2002 S10 had the same problem, I pulled off the bottom of the dashboard and bottom of the steering wheel cover (around 8 bolts). There's a plug on the left side behind the cruise control/high beam stalk with several wires attached to it. Turns out some of the wires had become brittle and moving the steering wheel up and down caused them to short. The four small wires for the cruise control all broke off. I pulled out the metal pins and reattached them to the wires, worked for a while...
