I need to replace the EGR valve in my Suzuki Reno. Is there a way to test a disconnected EGR valve? I would like to pull an EGR valve from a junk yard but how can I tell if it is functioning properly before I purchase it?
You can try to run your car without your egr connected and if it idles then you have a blocked port in your head and with the junkyard one just need a diagram and power and ground the circuits
Test your old egr valve--then install a new one.
If it is a vacuum only, you use a vacuum gauge (off motor)
If it is electronic throw it away
Either way it's time for a new one
You can have a shop look at scan tool data if that
is avail

it's on the intake collector, you have to remove the intake collector then remove the egr valve from the intake collector
SOURCE: my car is a suzuki xl-7 2002. it's has a problem
The EGR valve will be mounted on the intake manifold, and may have either wiring or a vacuum hose attached to it. Type 'EGR valve' into Google images, and you will see what it looks like.
