Temperature & gas gauge stopped working

If the temperature gauge in your 2001 Ford E150 cargo van is not working, there are a few potential causes:

4. Instrument cluster issues: If the temperature gauge is not the only gauge that is not working, the problem may be with the instrument cluster itself. In this case, the instrument cluster may need to be repaired or replaced.
5. Faulty gauge: It's also possible that the temperature gauge itself is faulty and needs to be replaced.

When you have a check engine light, there are codes stored. That's where you start--with the codes

check for a bad earth in the system . Possibly the earth strap on the motor or dirty battery terminals . IF the temp gauge will not work (bad earth ) and the ac stops working ( cabin air temp reaches setting) or the circuit has an earth problem switching off the ac. Check all wires for broken , not connected properly and check each earth point for clean and tight.

Possible ground issue or corrosion on the circuit board . Have you checked for water intrusion in that area ?

If a battery is below 9.6-volts or is charging above 16 -volts , you get all kinds of goofy electrical issues

If all voltages checked ok,then most probably its faulty instrument cluster board on which gauges are connected.Yes if cluster circuit board looks ok,then also it can be faulty.Somewhere there is minute short or burn on board then such prolem arises.
Also check the fuse box.One under hood and other under dash.Inspect each and every fuse and see if all are fine or not.

If all voltages checked ok, then most probably its faulty instrument cluster board on which gauges are connected. Yes if cluster circuit board looks ok, then also it can be faulty. Somewhere there is minute short or burn on board then such problem arises.

Also check the fuse box. One under hood and other under dash.

Inspect each and every fuse and see if all are fine or not.

maybe low on coolant, check water to coolant ratio.

there is usually a button on bottom of the steering column to push to take the key out of the ignition. it should allow you to turn the key to the lock position
