What causes a SEAT AROSA (Volkswagen Lupo) automatic geabox not going into 4th gear straight away? It goes in but only after the engine races like there's no gear selected. this only happens between...

vw has problems like this due to tranny fluid getting to low, when oil is low tranny starts doing crazy things, on your model im not to sure but most of the newwer vw's require a lift to check the tranny oil level. from under the the car theres a plug on the tranny pan, this is where you fill it and check it. there are a few steps like make sure the engine is at operating remp and on level ground an then you go through the gears and let it sit with engine runnig and remove the plug and some oil should leak out, that is full, its a tube inside the pan and when the pan is full it gets to the height of the tube and inturn runs down the tube and out from the plug you removed, the oil should just dribble out if it runs out steady then allow it to drain until the flow is very slow, this would be due to overfilling it. good day.

2002 VW Golf Headreast Removal

Same proceedure as front headrests but tilt the back of the seats forward about halfway. Push the little clip in on top of the seat, by the chrome rail, pull the headrest up and slide out of the hole. Push the back of the seat back, lift up the bottom seat and tilt forward. Lay the back seats down. Done.

My daughter has a front side light bulb gone on her 51 plate vw lupo. having just read the manual it suggests taking it to an expert! is this correct... just to change a bulb? ps you dont have lupo in your...

There are two ways to change this light:

One method is to get at it through the wheel well. You'll have to remove the plastic guard inside the wheel well. Then reach up and pinch the spring in and pop it out. You may have to take the wheel off to get more room and to see up easier

Another method is to take a thin flat blade screwdriver, wrap the blade in electrical tape or masking tape and to gently slide in behind the side marker on the same side as the mirror. The side marker has a spring-like clip on one side and two tabs on the other. This method is faster, but has a change of scratching your paint or breaking the tabs on the side marker

MY VW LUPO IS HUNTING AND MAKING A CLICKING NOISE UNDER THE ENGINE IM HAVE THE ECT CHANGED ON SATURDAY I HAD JUST HAD A M.O.T IT FAIL CAUSE EXHAUST EMISSIONS WERE TOO HIGH I HAVE SOME TIMES A CHECK LIGHT...

The hunting and clicking is caused by a stuck vapor canister purge valve. The valve is on a vacume line. When it gets stuck open too much air enters the engine at idle or low rpm. This will cause the engine to hunt and stall as soon as any load is put on it if you do not rev it hard. The engine will over-run when coming to a stop and probably stall. It can come and go putting the chack light on. The quick fix is to just un-plug the solenoid. facing the enginebay it is located on the left hand side just infront of the suspention mount it is half balck half blue on every lupo i have seen. unpluging it will mean the car is driveable again but the check light does come on. It is 100% safe as long as nothing else happens that goes undetected because the light is already on. The part is about £70/80 from VW,  they may or may not know what you are talking about but i would not bother going to VW. The part is easy to find at a scrapyards if there are Lupos / Polos.  A number of other VAG cars share the part as well.  Any other problems come along to clublupo.co.uk

Idling clatter on vw lupo

Hi

If this is the 3 cylinder Lupo then it could very well be the timing chain getting noisy.

Its around about a 3 to 4 hour job if I remember rightly, so at a VW main dealer labour costs would be over £200 ($400) plus around about £120 ($240) or so for the parts (chain and tensioner).

These are English prices though, so although I've put dollars in brackets, prices may still differ.

Just as a matter of interest, the main cause of chain stretch is lack of servicing, oil changes to be exact. If the service schedule is kept up then a timing chain will last several hundred thousand miles.

Very best regards

Geordie
