Car suddenly shuts off

While driving 2005 Nissan Altima 2.5s it suddenly acts like it has shut off. It only lasts a second but is occurring more frequently. I've read that it could be the fuel pump but I cannot locate it in any of the manuals.

I have the same problem in my car. I too have a 2005 Nissan Altima. Mine seems to only happen when I go on long trips. (about an hour/hour and a half) When this happens, my sevice engine soon light will come on and if I turn off my car, I have to give it gas to turn back on. It seems after it has had a chance to cool off it is back to normal again and in a couple of days the engine light goes off. There was a recall in '07 about the crankshaft that states: IF THE INTERRUPTION IN THE SIGNAL FROM THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR IS SO BRIEF THAT THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE (ECM) LOGIC DOES NOT HAVE TIME TO DIAGNOSE THE CONDITION, THE ENGINE MAY STOP RUNNING WITHOUT WARNING WHILE THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN AT A LOW SPEED INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. That may be looking into. I am going to do that in the next couple of weeks and ask them their opinion on why my car does what it is. I have looked and thought also it may be my feul pump. I will try to keep you posted.

I have a 05' nissan altima , when starting the car i hear a beep that last 15-20 seconds then when turning it off it occurs again .. any ideas on what this could be ?

Is it a series of three beeps?then the car thinks the key is in the ignition and you need a cylinder. If it is a long steady beep it is because the headlights are on and it is alerting you. The body control module will time out the lights and the beep stops. The transponder key did not come out til 2007. So the beep is not be ause the fob is in tthe car. That is NOT your key system in a 2005. 10 years at nissan.

Sounds like you may have a wire heating up and grounding out or a wire loosing contact.

You may have a thermostat stuck open,Have it replaced.on older cars the thermostat would stick shut and people would burn up there engines. Now they make them stay open when they fail so you dont overheat your engine and blow it up..

Changing engine oil on my 05 Altima and notice when oil filter came out maybe 1/3 of a Qt came out, im real concerned. i didnt notice any oil leak or anything. The last time i changed oil was 7 mo ago, I...

This is normal and is good. There is a one way valve built in the oil filter so when the engine is shut off this valve will shut and keep the oil in the passages so when the engine is started oil will be pumped in the engine quicker and oil preassure will be built up quicker.

Car jerks on freeway and engine shuts off.

It sounds like your Mass Air Flow Sensor is faulty. These sensors will normal show fault when cruising at highway speeds causing the vehicle to almost stall or stall. Replace the Mass Air Flow Sensor with a known good one and test drive the vehicle. This will most likely repair your concern.
