Sounds like you have solved it as far as the bad synchro. For these to be replaced the transmission basically has to be rebuilt in short or long form to get to the snychro to replace it.
For the right technician it is just a matter of doing it.

SOURCE: how to take the dash apart to replace the blower
you have to first take the console covers off, remove the glove box, the ashtray, and all the screws and panel push pins. there is no short cut to getting the instrument cluster panel off. recline the front seats all the way after sliding the seats to their rear most positions. you can then access the screws that keep the console on. remove these then the shifter cover screws near the floor. after you have taken those out, remove the vent/heater covers and then lying on the floor look up and you will see all the screws that will need to be removed first.
SOURCE: Where's an 2005 Ford Focus Blower Motor resistor
Might be the Resistor pack located close to the blower. It has a flat connector with 4 or 5 wires, and two small screws holding in the duct. It may be a crispy critter. It happens... The blower moves air across it to keep it cool. The blower motor may be bad as well, or possibly the fan speed switch. May very well be the fuse for the blower as well. The blower connector may be loose. Let me know what you find.
