If the oil pan will clear the steering components without jacking up the engine then drop the pan and unbolt the oil pump. You'll need to get a new pan gasket for the oil pan too.

drain the oil, put a jack or jack stand with a piece of wood just barely touching the pan to support it...remove all the bolts, slowly lower the pan and dispose of the oil...spray, clean, dry...remove all old gasket gunk from the motor and pan, place gasket on the new pan (i use a few very very small drops of gasket sealer to hold it in place while im putting it on...put in all bolts loose finger tight and then torque per spec evenly. it is VERY important that you tighten them evenly, I tighten one, then the one opposite it, then skip 4 and repeat, even and not over tightened are the key

It is hard to say without being able to check the vehicle. It is possible that gasket material, silicone, etc. ended up inside the engine duing the repairs and is now stuck in your oil pump screen. It is also possible that you really do not have low oil pressure and the gauge is "lying" to you.

The way to find out is to remove the oil pressure sending unit and install a manual gauge. Take an actual pressure reading to see if the car's gauge is accurate. If it is not accurate, you most likely need a new sending unit. If you find that the oil pressure is actually low, then it is time to pull the oil pan and look inside to see what kind of damage or debris is in the oil pan.

By basepan, do you mean the oil pan? The 3800 engine in your monte has problems with the pan gasket leaking, or the pan itself rotting. You can do it yourself, but it requires either lifting the engine up about 6 inches, or dropping the cradle.

If you can do that, then yes, you can change it yourself, otherwise, you will need to take it to the shop. I've done 3 of them and it is a pain. Unless you're really into being a mechanic, take it somewhere.

Replace the oil filter, check the oil pan gaskets and/or take it immediately to a mechanic for pressure testing.

The engine has to be supported and the cradle under the engine has to be removed. After everything is reinstalled the front end has to be realigned.

The oil pan is at the bottom of the engine. You might have the exhaust in the way, in which case you need a helper so that you can remove the exhast from the engine and take the entire pipe from the vehicle. From there, make sure you drain all the old oil from the engine and pan. Unthread all the bolts that surround the old oil pan gasket (you may have to remove the starter motor to gain access to a few bolts). Lower the pan carefully off the engine block (the oil pump and oil filter screen are within the oil pan. You want to make sure not to damage these componets or the baffle inside the oil pan). Your new gasket may have four retainers-especially if it's a Felpro gasket. These retainers go into the corners of the engine block mating surface for the oil pan. Slide your gasket up onto the retainers and engine block, then put your oil pan onto it (the retainers will hold it loosely in place. Put all the bolts but the four corners into the engine block. Remove the retainers and replace the bolts. Reconnect the exhaust pipe. Fill engine with oil, run, and check for leaks.
